Confessions of a Beauty Blogger TAG

November 04, 2012 | , , ,
I've been seeing the Confessions of a Beauty Guru TAG going around quite a bit lately and thought I wanted to get on the bandwagon, even though I don't see myself as a 'beauty guru'.  The original Confessions of a Beauty Guru TAG features 14 questions and I've used most of them, tweaking a few to make them blog appropriate as opposed to for YouTube.

So let's get into it -

1. How many hours a week do you spend planning/writing/uploading posts?
It's really hard to tell, to be honest. Sometimes I can write a whole post in 10/15 minutes (Nail of the Day and Want it Wednesday posts are very quick). Other posts, however, can take a couple of hours, depending on how easily distracted I am, as well as whether I'm researching for the post. On a slack way I'd way 3-5 hours a week and on a full on week, it's more like 10+. Sometimes I like to pre-write posts to be organised so, of course, that takes more time..
2. Are you a spender or a saver?
Spender. I'm absolute spender. I'm probably the World's Worst Saver and my savings account currently has $80 in it. Far out, Sophie.
3. When is it easiest for you to write your posts?
Anytime, really. I write my posts whenever, depending on what my plans are.
4. What makes writing posts comfortable for you?
For YouTubers, this question is more about their setting and stuff and I suppose that applies to me too. I mean, no one sees me if I feel uncomfortable but, to be honest, I never do though. I like to write when I'm watching something (either tv, a dvd or YouTube) because I hate complete silence. Sometimes I get writer's block (mainly with reviews or when I'm distracted by a good tv show) and, in these situations, I find that reading other's reviews helps me. I  don't compromise my own thoughts on a product though, obviously, but it can be helpful to see what other people thought.
5. What's your worst make up/hair habit?
Umm. I'm not too sure. It's probably that I dye my hair too much. I don't mean a few foils or root touch up, I mean full hair colour change. In the past 8 months I have been bright red, brown, bright red again (by bleaching ALLL of my hair), brown, copper and I have just recently balayaged my hair. No wonder it's in semi bad condition.
6. What's one quote you wish the world would live by?
I'm not a huge quote person. I think if everyone were just nice people and considered others, the world would be a great place. 'Treat others the way you want to be treated' sums that up though, I guess.
7. How long do you spend getting ready everyday?
Just under an hour, not including a shower. Sometimes my hair will cooperate and it will be quicker. On the other hand, I can take ages if I'm having a bad hair day. If I want to wear my hair straight for something I'll almost always do it the night before so it's one thing I don't have to worry about in the morning. I find that's a lifesaver and gives me at least an extra 20 minutes to sleep.
8. What's your favourite post on your blog?
I don't think I have a favourite, as such. I like all the posts I write. My post comparing Revlon's Colorstay and MAC's Studio Fix is one of my most viewed and accessed through Google, as is my Fake Urban Decay Palette post. One of the most exciting for me to write was my review of Make Up For Ever's HD Foundation, purely because I'd wanted to try it for the longest time. I also love my posts about products from Saucy Sweethearts. Saucy Sweethearts is a Perth business and I love supporting them.
9. Who is a beauty blogger that you think deserves more subscribers that they have?
Umm, I'm not too sure. There are a lot of beauty gurus on YouTube that I think deserve a lot more subscribers. As far as beauty bloggers go, I really like Lizzi @ Make Up and Coffee's blog. She's honest, informative and really nice.
10. What's one this you're excited about in the coming year?
I take it they mean 12 months, yeah? If so, there's two things I'm excited about. In July of 2013 I will turn 21. What's not exciting about that? I'm also planning on going to IMATS 2013 with my Amy and, as I'm sure you can imagine, I can't wait. I've been seeing everyone's IMATS videos, as well as reading all the posts, and now I'm even more excited than I was before.
11. What's been your favourite blogging moment?
There's been so many. Every view milestone (10 000, 20 000, 30 000 etc) has been incredible and super exciting.  The first time I was contacted by a company, 1 Skin Solution, was so exciting also. Being recognise for something I love to do is so, well, exciting. Sorry I can't think of another word to use but it is!
12. How long does it take to prep for a post?
As I said in question 1, it depends on what kind of post I'm writing. If it's a face post, much like my Expensive Face on, it takes quite a while - 2+ hours because I have to apply the make up, take photos of the products, edit the photos and then I can actually sit down to write the post. Other posts, such as favourites, take no real prep. at all except for thinking.
13. Are you wearing jeans/skirt right now or are you wearing pajama bottoms?
Right now I'm wearing a skirt. Given that, unlike beauty gurus on YouTube, people don't see me at all so I can wear whatever I want. I will often blog in my pyjamas.
14. What are you most proud of in your life?
I guess my blog would be up there on my proud list. I'm really happy with how far it's come in a year. I'm also proud of my studies (I love what I'm studying) and, well, life in general. My family is also pretty cool, especially my beautiful nephew Alex.

So, everyone, that's a little bit about me, my blog and what I do here! If you have any other questions, comment below and I'll answer them in another Q&A post.

Also, I tag the following people. I'd love to see their answers, as well as the those of anyone who is reading this. You're alllll tagged.
If you do this TAG please leave a link below so I can check it out.

Always look your best,
Sophie
