SPRING/SUMMER TREND TUESDAY: Ombre/Balayage Hair

November 20, 2012 | , , , , , , , , , ,
Ombre and Balayage hair is very 'in' at the moment. Whilst it has been for a while now, I think it's extra effective in the Spring and Summer. Why? Because the gradual lightening of the hair is perfect for this time of year.

Before I continue, let's look at the different between Ombre and Balayage hair. To be honest, I didn't really know if there WAS a difference until today (except that balayage is the technique).
"Ombre hair refers to the gradual lightening of the hair strand, usually fading from a darker color near the roots to a lighter on at the ends. Ombre can be very subtle or very striking. The look you want to achieve will depend on the technique and level of lightness."

Drew Barrymore is very much a hair icon and rocks the ombre look so well!
"Balayage is French meaning 'to paint'. When a colourist is colouring, the majority of the brush strokes are horizontal in nature to coat the front and back of the hair strands. In balayage, the colours 'paints' vertically with the tip of the brush and only to the front of the hair, creating natural, sun kissed highlights."

Balayage hair very much low maintenance. If you're often curling your hair, it will look great on you, depending on the intensity of the colour contrast! In my opinion, this hair trend looks best if hair is curled, purely because the transition colour line is a lot less prominent. In saying that, however, I'm still often straightening my hair. Just do what you think looks best!

So, what do you think of this look? I know it's not for everyone so are you a fan? I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Always look your best,
Sophie
