50 Day Spending Ban With Sweetaholic Beauty: WE'RE DONE!

Nope, your eyes are not deceiving you. With Thursday being the 50th day, Jasmine and I are officially done with our 50 Day Spending Ban. I'm really thankful to have had the opportunity to do this ban with the amazing Jasmine. There were many occasions where we found ourselves sending each other angry 'I WANT THIS' Tweet but, of course, we didn't cave...well I didn't.

I've saved so much through the ban which is really exciting and I also learnt that, yes, maybe I do shop too much. I won't now go give up shopping all together but it may make me rethink some of my purchases a bit. After all, I am a grown up now unfortunately.

All in all, I found the 50 Day Spending Ban fairly 'easy'. The first week was difficult because I had to curb my impulse purchases and remind myself that no, I couldn't have that lipstick. The next couple of weeks were a breeze. I was super busy with work and commitments on the weekends so I barely had time to think about shopping, let alone miss it! The final week was such a struggle though because there's a couple of things that I really want to buy now so I realllllly counted it down!

I am soo excited to send Jasmine my swap package so she can try my Top 5 Beauty Products. There are some products that I'm really confident that Jasmine will absolutely love so I can't wait to post it out to her, hopefully tomorrow.

To see how Jasmine went with her ban, check out her final post here. She didn't crack either!

Now that I've finished my ban, I feel like it's time to shop. Thing is, I don't know where! I've kind of lost my shopping mojo. Should I place an order with Beauty Joint, iHerb, Lipstick Republic, Sephora or Beauty Bay? There's so many stores!

Always look your best,
Sophie

How To Spot Clean Brushes Using MAC Brush Cleanser

Spot cleaning is a great way of cleaning brushes in between deep cleans. It removes all surface product from a make up brush, meaning that they don't need to be deep cleaned as often. I don't recommend using this technique in place of a deep clean but it's great for cleaning brushes between uses. Spot cleaning is also fantastic when you're doing multiple people's make up on the same day. Most people spot clean with an alcohol based product, meaning it dries quickly and the brush can be used again.

Whilst I frequently spot clean my eye brushes, I don't use this technique with my face brushes as I feel they need to be deep cleaned to remove the product effectively.

To see how I deep clean my brushes, keep reading!

August Favourites, 2013

It's August 29 and, with only two days of the month left, it's time to do a monthly favourites, don't you think? This month I've pulled out a few old products, as well as fallen in love with some recent additions to my collection, and, as always, I have a lot to show you!

I was going to tell you guys a little bit about my month but, to be honest, this month hasn't been too exciting for me. I've have a couple of 21st birthday parities and, apart from work, I haven't had time to do much else. I'm really excited for the next few months but stay tuned 'til the end of the post for that!

Red Earth Secret Potion Illuminating Skin Fluid in #01 Pearl* Review and Swatches

I jumped when I was given the the opportunity to try a selection of Red Earth products, including the Secret Potion Illuminating Skin Fluid in #01 Pearl. When I was lot younger (I'm talking 12-13 here, guys) I had a few Red Earth products that I bought with my sister and, of course, I used them to death. To me brand kind of disappeared after that but now they're back and better than ever with a selection of truly amazing products.

Liquid highlighters are something that I don't reach for on an everyday basis because I feel like they can be a bit more time consuming that a sweep of powder but, when I do, I'm always so happy with the results and left wondering why I don't do it more often. We all know that feeling, don't we?

"Flaunt impossibly luminous skin with this famed multi-purpose illuminator. The light reflecting liquid glides onto skin to enliven your complexion of decollete. Soothing and condiitoning, the formula contains a unique hydrating complex of anti-ageing Vitamins A and E and soothing Balm Mint Extract"

Sophie's Sick Picks

This winter has been super sucky for me. I've been sick three times and two of them were super unpleasant, with the third being a common cold. I could complain about my crappy immune, sure, but instead I decided to turn a negative into a positive and write a blog post. There are a bunch of products that help get me through when I'm feeling less than 'fresh' so I thought it'd be good to share them with you all!

Maybelline Total Clean Express Eye & Lip Makeup Remover Review

I know it's bad but I never used to use a specific eye make up remover. Granted I use MAC's Cleanse Off Oil so it's not too bad but I always felt guilty about not using something specific for my eyes. Don't get me wrong, I tried a bunch but they always broke me out (including Bioderma - that was the worst of the lot) so I just gave up in the end.

The Maybelline Total Clean Express Eye & Lip Makeup Remover came free with a Maybelline Volum' Express Falsies Everlasting Mascara a while ago at Chemist Warehouse so I thought I'd give it a try and wow, I love it! I'm onto my third bottle now and, as you can see from the photo above, I'm well stocked.

Lust Have It | August 2013

Friday I got home to find my August Lust Have It! package waiting for me. Yay! In my opinion tere's no better way to end the week then with a surprise package. Whilst most months the boxes has a different colour/design, this month's boxes were leftovers from all the months to get rid of stock in preparation for next month. Apparently they have new designs. I can't wait to see what they are!

Anyway, let's get into what I got in this month's Lust Have It! box!

Dior Crème de Rose Smoothing Plumping Lip Balm

When I placed my last Sephora order I just couldn't resist adding the Dior Crème De Rose Smoothing Plumping Lip Balm to my cart. It was definitely a splurge but, after seeing a few beauty gurus on YouTube talk/rave about it, I really needed to satisfy my curiosity.

They weren't wrong, it turns out! This lip balm is absolutely beautiful and, despite the hefty price tag, you can see the dent I've already put in it after about a month. There's no point in wasting it, right?

500+ Followers Giveaway Winner

Each and every time I host a giveaway I'm overwhelmed by the number of entries I get. It's just crazy! Thank you so much to every single person who entered my giveaway and hello to all my new followers. I'm so glad you've joined us!

To enter this competition I asked people to leave a blog comment telling me what their favourite posts are and wow! I absolutely loved the feedback I received and I'm definitely going to be using that in the coming months when it gets to deciding what to post here on Born to Buy. Lots of people said they like my reviews so I'm making a conscious effort to upload more because, well, over the last few months those are the posts that have really been lacking. I've got such a backlog of products that I want to share with you so expect to see me start pumping them out like nobodies business.

Now let's get to the real reason you're reading this post. The winner of the MAC Quad and Furless Brush Set issssss...

Sarah from More Than Adored

When Rafflecopter told me Sarah was the winner I laughed. I actually laughed. Why? Because if there's one person who deserved to win this prize it was Sarah. Sarah was one of the most dedicated entrants, Tweeting me everyday without fail, and we often joked about how much she wanted this MAC Quad. Well, Sarah, it's all yours. Congratulations!

Sarah, please email me on dontstopbuying@hotmail.com or Tweet me to arrange the delivery of your prize.

As always, I just want to thank you once again to every single person who entered my giveaway! I have my second blogiversary coming up soon, as well as a couple of other things I'd love to celebrate, so I will be hosting a few more giveaways really soon. Stay tuned!

Of course, it does not contain any harmful ingredients such as formaldehyde, toluene and emollient phthalate"

Unless you've been living under a rock you'll know that one of the most exciting sales to come out of Pricelines' newest catalogue is 50% off all Maybelline products. The sale started on August 15th and, with it going until August 26, I thought it would be a good opportunity to tell you all about my top 5 Maybelline products!

Australis Neturals and Neons Limited Edition Palette Review and Swatches

I've not tried Australis' eyeshadows in a very long time (to be honest, I'm not sure if I ever have) so when I saw this palette in my Priceline a few months ago I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to try a selection of shades at once. A friend of mine, Jasmine from Sweetaholic Beauty, had already reviewed this palette and, after reading her review, I decided it would be a great addition to my collection.

The Skincare Tag

I was tagged by Sarah from More Than Adored to do The Skincare Tag. My skincare routine isn't too comprehensive, as you may know if you've been following me for a while now, but I thought it'd be a good post to do nonetheless!

L'Oreal Paris Infallible Eyeshadow Swatches and Review

I'm a palettes girl. I've always been a palettes girl. I find it a lot more convenient for eyeshadows to all be in the same place and hate reaching for a bunch of different products to create a look. I don't own too many individual shadows and, when I have five from the same range, you know they're a winner.

I'm absolutely in love with the L'Oreal Infallible Eyeshadows. These pressed pigments are incredibly pigmented eyeshadows with a unique texture. They look absolutely amazing and apply like a dream. These eyeshadows are some of the most reached for eyeshadows in my collection and, after reviewing the L'Oreal Paris Infallible 2-Step Longwear Lipsticks, I decided it was time to share something else from that collection with you all.
#002 Hourglass Beige, #004 Forever Pink, #012 Endless Chocolat, #021 Sahara Treasure and #027 Goldmine

Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure* Nail Polish Review

I make no secret of the fact that I love Sally Hansen nail products. Her nail care products (Miracle Cure Nail Strengthener and Diamond Flash Fast Dry Top Coat deserve an honourable mention) are fantastic and I'm also completely smitten by the Hard As Nails Xtreme Wear nail polishes.

Anyway, long story short, I was thrilled when the Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Polishes* were released. I know they've been available for quite some time (and I've had many of these polishes for a while now) but I recently added some new colours to my collection so I decided it was the perfect time to review them!
Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Nail Polish in #670 Midnight in NY, #546 Get Juiced, #540 Frutti Petutie, #520 Shrimply Devine, #500 Pink at Him, #330 Pedal to the Metal and #220 Cafe Au Lait

Empties & What I'm Throwing Out | May - July, 2013

Over the past three months I managed to accumulate a huge amount of empties so it's time to share them with you all! I've decided that I'll be posting these monthly from now on in order to avoid such a long post but, until then, you're stuck with this photo heavy post. Because it's so long I'm not going to talk about the products unless I really want to tell you guys something. There's just too many! With that in mind though, let me know if there's anything you'd like to see reviewed. I've be more than happy to oblige!

Also, I should be honest and say that some of these products were finished a while ago and I just found them. Oops!
Batiste Dry Shampoo in Proud & True Brit | Healthy Sexy Hair Soy Touchable Weightless Hairspray* | Batiste Dry Shampoo in Sassy & Daring Wild | Davroe Tame Lemongrass Detangler

I can't believe the amount of product I'm finally able to throw out. It's a lot, hey? Some of these products I'm glad to see the back of, however I'm really going to miss one. For example, I love Kylie Minogue's Sweet Darling perfume, a limited edition variation of her Darling fragrance, which can't be bought any longer and I hate the original. A friend recently found a bottle and gave it to me though which is why I finally finished this one.

Anyway, from how on, as I said, I'll be uploading these monthly so they're a lot more manageable. Here's hoping I have another good product emptying month this month!

* - Indicates products that were provided for review or as a PR sample. These products have remained in my collection, meaning that I have not yet posted about them, I genuinely like them or both.
Always look your best,

Hello, old friend | July Lust Have It! Box*, 2013

Ever since I started working again I've tossed about the thoughts of resubscribing to a beauty subscription service. I love the idea of the boxes and now that I'm working and not shopping as much (even when I'm not participating in a shopping ban I just don't have the time) I like the idea of products arriving at my doorstep monthly. The only thing was that I couldn't decide which box I wanted to resubscribe to. I was fairly set on Lust Have It!, although I hadn't yet subscribed, when I received an email from their team inviting me to be an affiliate. I'm not one for signs and all that jazz but hey, that definitely sounded like a sign to me!

Long story short, I resubscribed to Lust Have It!. My first box will be arriving this month, in August, but the Lust Have It! team were kind enough to send me the July box and I couldn't be more thankful and I was so envious of other people's! Me oh my, beauty subscription boxes sure have changed since I was last subscribed!

I've decided to change the layout of my beauty subscription posts a little because, well, now I look at how I used to structure them I just don't like it.
To see what was in the July Lust Have It! box, keep on reading!

50 Day Spending Ban with Sweetaholic Beauty: 33 DAY UPDATE

Today is the 33rd day of my 50 Day Spenidng Ban, meaning that I only have 17 days left. Wow! Once again, this ban is a lot easier than I expected and I'm definitely not complaining about that. I'm collaborating with Jasmine from Sweetaholic Beauty so click here to see how she's going!
What's Tempting Me?
To be honest, I don't think there's anything that's really tempting me at the moment. Sure, I'd love to put in an order with iHerb or Sephora but that's just because I'm me and I love make up.. stuff.
I was tempted to buy a few non essential skincare products when I placed my Priceline order during their 40% OFF sale but I tried to practice some sort of self control.
I'm trying to find new nail polish storage because what I'm using at the moment just isn't cutting it. I've found something I like but it's going to cost me about $150 for two units + postage so I'm spending the next 17 days trying to find a more affordable option. I figure that I may as well use the time wisely if I can't buy it for almost three weeks anyway.
There's actually been one struggle, my handbag. My handbag is actually falling apart and desperately needs replacing. I've decided that I can buy a new one during the ban if a strap actually breaks but, for now, I'm just praying that it can hang on. I'm sad too. I love this bag. :(

What's Making It Easier?
If you saw my Parisian Beauty Haul you'll have seen all the pretties that my Mum bought back from her trip for me. That's definitely made things a lot easier. My goodness, I just love that Creme Blush by YSL (in fact, it could be dangerous). As I said in my last post, it's been a lot easier than I expected and I think that's got a lot to do with the fact that I don't really have time to shop anymore. On weekdays I'm out from about 6.40am - 5.30pm and, on weekends, I'd rather spend time with family and friends than shop. In saying that though, I'd love to spend time with them while shopping!

I'm really enjoying this spending ban and it's a lot less painful than I expected. It's nice to know I'm using products in my collection up and I'm not just being wasteful. The ban, when teamed with new full time work hours, is seeing my savings account increase at a substantial and steady rate. This means that, not only will I definitely be at IMATS next year, I can finally buy all the new furniture I really want for my blog room. Hello, blog room tour (eventually).

Don't forget to head to Sweetaholic Beauty and check out Jasmine's blog! We're doing this ban together and I know she'd really appreciate the lovin'.
Always look your best,
Sophie

Priceline 40% OFF Skincare Haul

If you're a beauty lover in Australia there's not many Priceline sales that get past you, especially when there's 40% OFF skincare. I haven't forgotten that I'm doing the 50 Day Spending Ban With Sweetaholic Beauty, don't worry, but if you read the rules you'll know that I'm allowed to buy skincare products. Not random I-really-want-to-try-this products, but products that actually work for me. When your skin is as temperamental as mine is, nothing will stop you using what works, not even a spending ban.

Anyway, as always, so many of my skincare products all started dying at the same time (isn't that always the way?!) so I thought I'd buy them during the sale, especially because I was going to stock up anyway! I decided to order online because I didn't know if I'd be able to make it into a store during the two day sale but also because it reduced the risk of impulse purchases!

I'm not going to talk about why I picked up the products because, well, I've spoken about them a fair bit so I'm just going to link my three skincare posts below. They're all mentioned in them!

Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant Review

Exfoliating the skin is a vital part of any skincare routine. It helps rejuvenate the skin, removing dead skin and unclogging pores, and rids the skin of unwanted oils, dirt and nasties. Exfoliating the skin also increases blood flow to the area, promoting healing which is great, especially for those who experience regular breakouts. With all this in mind, however, I've found many facial exfoliants to be too abrasive for my sensitive skin that tends to be very temperamental.

A few months ago I was in David Jones doing what I do best, looking at products I don't need, when I found myself at the Dermalogica counter. There's been a lot of hype surrounding their products of late so, of course, I was more than happy to hear about them all. One product that's always caught my attention is the Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant so, after a lot of schmoozing and sweet talking, I walked away with a handful of samples, including enough of the Daily Microfoliant to last me a week or so.

I instantly fell in love with this product, buying a full size from Skincare Store after only a few days so I could reduce my changes of going without this product. I'm still on that bottle but almost two months ago I bought two more during a huge sale. Let's just say I really like the product.
To see why I'm loving the Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant, keep reading!

Parlez Vous Francais? | Parisian Beauty Haul

If you've read any of my recent posts I'm sure you know that my Mum's been jet setting around the place lately, travelling to both France and Ireland. Being the beauty lover that I am, it was only natural that I sent her with a list of products to pick up from Sephora for me. Sure, I could've ordered most of these products from Sephora when I placed my order last month but then I couldn't say they were from France, could I?
Most of the things I asked my Mum to pick up where from French brands because, well, it just made sense, and she got me a few extra bits 'n' pieces.
To see what my Mum picked up for me, keep reading!

CALLING BEAUTY BLOGGER: Born to Balm Blogging Program

Hi, Beauty Bloggers. I was recently thinking about some of the exciting opportunities given to me because of my blog and I thought it was time to give back so I came up with the Born to Balm Blogging Program. This Program isn't awfully complicated, nor is there a huge selection criteria, but I thought it might be a good way to get to know other blogs as well as provide y'all with a new opportunity.

Each month I'll be choosing a new blog and sending them a Born to Balm Lip Balm in a flavour of their choice (provided that it's in stock). I will post it out in the middle of the month, hoping that the blogger is able to review the product by the end of the month. For the whole next month, the blogger will have a 15% off coupon code for them and their readers. Who doesn't want that?

To apply to be part of the Born to Balm Blogging Program, all you have to do is email me your media kit with postal address. Send all this information to dontstopbuying@hotmail.com. If you do send me your Media Kit, I'll be sure to respond ASAP to tell you that I received it. If your blog is chosen (please note: the blog selection will be fairly random), you will be emailed.

This program is open to Australian residents only at the moment.
Always look your best,
Sophie

NEW RELEASE | Ulta3 Official AFL Fan Nails*

One thing you probably don't know about me is that I like football. I'm a member of the Fremantle Dockers and I have a huge crush on Matthew Pavlich, one of their players. He's just so dreamy. I'm not the die hard supporter like my Mum but, hey, I like them.

One of my favourite things to do before a game is coordinate my nails. I'm not organised, patient or dedicated enough to create some hardcore Fremantle Dockers nail art (my friend does it though and they always look amazing) but I'll often pull out purple nail polish before a game, especially if we're versing the West Coast Eagles!

Did you know? Females currently account for over 40% of current AFL or club members, over 40% of game day attendees and make up more that 45% of those who watch footy on television each week. Plus there are over 100 000 females who play the game around the country!**

With all of this in mind, I'm so excited to announce that Ulta3 has just release a new collection of nail kits, the Official AFL Fan Nails. These kits contain 3 official team colours (unless the team only has two colours, in which case the third polish is clear), nail tip guides (curved and pointed) and an AFL emery board. Yup! That's pretty much everything you need to create the perfect AFL nails.
 Hawthorn Hawks*
 Geelong Cats*
 West Coast Eagles*
 Sydney Swans*
 Fremantle Dockers*
I really love the idea surrounding these kits and I can't wait for my nails to grow a bit (damn you, birthday acrylics) so I can celebrate the Fremantle Dockers amazing season!! I also love the fact that I can now buy three Ulta3 polishes at a time. Woohoo!!

The Ulta3 Official AFL Fan Nails retail for $9.95. Stockists include selected pharmacies, AFL stores and Club Merchandising stores. AFL Fan Nails are also available in participating supermarkets and mass market retailers.

Do you follow football? What team do you support? Will you be picking up any of the kits?
*This product was sent me for review, however all opinions are my own. I was not paid for this post.
** Information from Ulta3 Official AFL Fan Nail Media Kit

Always look your best,
