July Favourites, 2013

As always, I have a lot of favourites, most of which are beauty so I always love the end of a month because it means I can share all these product favourites with you all! Like most months, July has gone super fast. I turned 21 this month (I know, so old). My Mum's also been away for the whole month which is super weird as we are the only two living in my house. My friend's been house sitting with me and, as much as I'm having a great time, I'm looking forward to my Mum coming home but if you tell her I said that I'll deny it!

500+ FOLLOWERS GIVEAWAY ft. MAC and Furless

A few weeks ago I reached a very exciting milestone, 500+ followers, and I can't express how grateful I am to every single one of you! I absolutely love all my of my beautiful readers and am so thankful for the wonderful opportunities I receive as a part of my blog. So, in true Sophie style, I'm here with a giveaway!

This giveaway is a little different to ones I've hosted previously. Firstly, there'll only be one winner. Sometimes I like to be able to increase people's chances of winning by having more than one prize but this time I decided to stick to one.

One winner will receive a MAC Quad (made by me, of course) with four of my favourite eyeshadows in it, Ricepaper (peachy gold with shimmer - frost), Wedge (soft muted beige taupe - matte), Patina (taupe brown with golden pearl - frost) and Cranberry (red plum with pink shimmer - frost). To apply these beautiful eyeshadows you need some brushes of course, don't you? Easy! The winner will also receive the Perfectly Pink Makeup Brush Set from Furless.
MAC Ripcepaper | MAC Wedge | MAC Patina | MAC Cranberry

I personally own all the eyeshadows I'm giving away and I think they're absolutely beautiful colours. With this combination you can create a multitude of looks from something super natural (Ricepaper on the lid and Wedge in the crease) to something a little more dramatic (how beautiful is Cranberry?!).  FUN FACT: Wedge is the first MAC eyeshadow I ever bought. As I said, the winner will also receive a Perfectly Pink Makeup Brush Set from Furless. This kit includes a large powder brush, angled contour brush, stippling brush, stubby blending brush, fluffy eyeshadow brush, angled liner brush, small domed crease blending brush and a precision eyeliner brush. These brushes are all packaged in a faux leather pink case.

a Rafflecopter giveaway

This giveaway will be open for three weeks, ending at midnight on August 20, and the winner will be announced soon after. This giveaway is open to AUSTRALIAN RESIDENTS ONLY. If you're under 16 years of age, please get the permission of a parent or legal guardian before entering.

Always look your best,
Sophie

SHOPPING RAMPAGE | Part Three: MAC Cosmetics

So, ladies and gents, here we are; I'm finally uploading the third part of my huge shopping rampage, my MAC haul! Surprisingly I didn't order much for myself but I did I pick up a few bits 'n' pieces which will be featuring in an exciting post tomorrow. I am actually quite surprised at how little I bought but, hey, there's a first for everything!!

First, I bought four more eyeshadow pans for my 15 Pan MAC Pro Palette. These are all colours I've been lusting over these colours for a really long time but have refused to pay AU prices for them, especially because nowhere in Perth sells the pans.
MAC Quarry | MAC Sweet Lust | MAC Cranberry | MAC Woodwinked
MAC Woodwinked | MAC Quarry | MAC Sweet Lust | MAC Cranberry

QUARRY: Soft muted plum-brown (matte)
SWEET LUST: Pinky rose (frost)
CRANBERRY: Red-plum with pink shimmer (frost)
WOODWINKED: Warm antique gold (veluxe pearl)

I'm so excited to own Cranberry. it's a shade I've been really wanting to try for quite some time now and, even though I've only worn it once or twice, I think it's absolutely beautiful already! In saying that though, I love every colour I picked up. I think MAC eyeshadows are some of the best!

I also picked up another product that I've wanted to try for so long because of those damn Pixiwoo girls, MAC's Glitter in Reflects Gold. This is a beautiful glitter that applies transparent but, as the name suggest, reflects gold. I've worn it once so far and I  can't wait to use it more.

To be honest, I've very proud of the amount I picked up for myself. My MAC shopping list is always absolutely huge so it's surprising that I limited myself to just a couple of products. I guess that means I'm growing as a person, right? I also can't wait to share tomorrow's post with you all. I just know you're going to love it.

What do you think of the products I picked up? Have you tried any of them?

Always look your best,
Sophie

L'Oreal Paris Infallible 2-Step Longwear Lipstick* Review and Swatches

Top to Bottom: #109 Blossoming Berry, #110 Timeless Rose, #111 Permanent Blush and #404 Coral Constant
I'm always on the hunt for long wearing lip products to wear on weekdays. There's nothing worse than having to touch up lip colour every hour and, as a self confessed beauty addict, I can't handle faded lips. With all that in mind, I was so grateful to receive four of the new L'Oreal Paris Infallible 2-Step Longwear Lipsticks* (I know, such a mouthful!) recently and, after using them on and off for a couple of weeks, I'm finally here to give you my thoughts!!
The L'Oreal Paris Infallible 2-Step Longwear Lipsticks* are very new to the Australian market (being available nationwide as of June) so I thought I'd take the opportunity to tell you a little about them before jumping into the review! After the hype and ongoing success of other products in the Infallible range (is anyone else thinking about those absolutely beautiful eyeshadows that I must review?!), L'Oreal Paris launched the Infallible 2-Step Longwear Lipsticks*, 'the new standard in lip colour'. With hyaluronic gel to provide smooth colour that never dries, all day hydration and comfort and fade resistant colour, these lip colours are the answer to a work girl's prayer.

As you can see from the photo above, I have four of the fourteen shades available. To see what I think of the L'Oreal Paris Infallible 2-Step Longwear Lipsticks*, keep reading!

50 Day Spending Ban with Sweetaholic Beauty: TWO WEEK UPDATE

Today is the 16th day of my spending ban, meaning I have 34 days left. It's actually been a lot easier than I expected which is quite pleasant and, of course, my bank account is absolutely loving me. I'm collaborating with Jasmine from Sweetaholic Beauty and, after reading the updates on her last spending ban, I've decided to set out this update post similar to how she did hers!

What's Tempting Me?
Knowing how easy it is to order from stores in the US, it's so difficult to not just buy all of the things from Sephora. Yep, all of them! Also, Priceline has just started stocking a brand that's been raved about so much in the beauty community, La-Roche Posay. Whilst I'd love to try a few of their products, I've almost bought the Effaclar Duo so many times!

What's Making It Easier?
As I said, I've been finding it a lot easier than I expected. Last week I started working full-time, meaning I get up at 5.45am in the morning and get home about 5.30pm. You know what? That doesn't leave a lot of time for shopping! When I was part time I'd often make stops on the way home but now I really cannot be bothered unless it's essential. Score!

As you may have seen from my hauls (here and here), I recently placed a few orders from the US with birthday money. Whilst I placed them pre 50 Day Shopping Ban, the goodies have been arriving post ban. It's like shopping without shopping!

My Mum's in France at the moment (I know, lucky so and so) and, of course, I gave her a shopping list of a few bits 'n' pieces I'd love for her to pick up from Sephora and a pharmacy in Paris. Sure, I could've ordered the stuff when I placed my orders but hey, why do that when you can get some of it from France? I asked her to pick up a few make up products as well as the La-Roche Posay Effaclar Duo I've been lusting over so much. I'm so happy it's a French brand!!

So, everyone, that's how I'm doing! I've bought a couple of things but I'm following all the rules and using vouchers! I didn't buy make up though, just a CD drive for my MacBook Air and Sims3 plus a few expansion packs. I used to be a total Sims addict and I'm so excited to have it back in my life!

Don't forget to head to Sweetaholic Beauty and check out Jasmine's blog! We're doing the ban together and I know she'd really appreciate the lovin'.

Always look your best,
Sophie

Rimmel London Apocalips* Lip Lacquer Review and Swatches

The Rimmel Apocalips* have been receiving a lot of love in the beauty community lately. They were released in the UK a towards the start of the year and, in the last month or so, have hit Australia's shores. If you saw my ASOS cosmetics haul from April (click here to see it), you'll know that I picked up Luna (also known as Phenomenon for us Australians) and Nova, a light peach/coral and a mid toned somewhat dusty pink.
Top to Bottom: Stellar*, Apocalip*s, Nova, Phenomenon (aka Luna) and Stargazer*

"The intense colour of a lipstick with a smooth lacquer shine? Impossible, right? Wrong! New Apocalips* Lip Lacquer combines the best of both worlds with its ground-breaking formula - a luscious liquid packed with pure colour pigments for rich colour, phenomenal shine and supreme comfort that lasts all day. The lip lacquer formula gives your lips colour so strong and bold that your pout is bound to make an impact!"

FOTD // Weekend Catch Up: Coffee and Shopping

On Saturday I had, what I like to call, A Good-Face Day. I was doing anything too special, coffee with a friend then shopping (don't worry, it was for a friend's birthday so I didn't break the rules of my 50 Day Spending Ban) with another friend, but I was so happy with the make up look I came up with. It was fairly natural but everything worked really well together and I absolutely loved the result.

With about ten minutes to go before I had to head out, I decided to snap a few pics and here I am with my first Face of the Day in a very long time!
Benefit POREfessional | Garnier Miracle Skin Perfecter BB Cream for Combination to Oily Skin | MAC Select Cover Up Concealer in NC20 (for under the eyes) | MAC Studio Finish Concealer in NW20 (for concealing redness) | YSL Touché Ã‰clat Radiant Touch in #02 Luminous Ivory | MAC Studio Fix Powder in N2 | NARS Laguna Bronzer | MAC Matte Bronze | Sleek Contour Kit in Light | Illamasqua Powder Blush in Sophie | Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz in Medium Ash | NARS Eyeshadow Primer | Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette (Foxy and W.O.S. all over lids and Naked2 in crease) | Lorac Pro Palette (Champagne all over the lids, Mauve and Sable on lower lashine and Black on the lash line) | Maybelline Mega Plush Mascara | Sleek Eau La La Liner in Red Sky Night | YSL Rouge Volupte in #13 Peach Passion

As you can see, the look was very subtle but I was just so happy with the overall look. I loved the way these photos turned out as well (oh how I love my new camera!!) so, if you guys liked this, I'm hoping to upload Face of the Day posts more frequently.

What do you think of this look? What are your go to face products?
Always look your best,
Sophie

Shopping Rampage | Part Two: Sephora

On Tuesday I uploaded part one of a three part shopping haul series with that one being a haul from Sephora also. I used my birthday as an excuse to pick up a bunch of products I've really, really wanted over three online orders; two to Sephora and one to MAC. To see what I bought in my first Sephora order (because two is always better than one), click here. Over these three online orders I spent a lot, don't get me wrong, but please note that I've been saving to place this order for quite some time! I also used some birthday money to buy a few additional products I'd had my eye on. I definitely don't always shop like this! Also, to balance out the fact that my shopping has been a little OTT lately, I'm 8 days into a 50 day shopping ban (read more about it here).

Most of this haul was bits 'n' pieces that were picked up for friends but, of course, I couldn't resist getting a few extra bits for myself. Anyway, keep reading to see what else I picked up!

Compare the Pair: Essence All About Matt!* and Rimmel London Stay Matte

The Rimmel London Stay Matte powder is a super hyped up product in the beauty community. Everyone from make up beginners to Tanya Burr (Pixi2Woo) wears this product so almost a year ago I picked it up. A few months ago I acquired the Essence All About Matt! Fixing Compact Powder* and, ever since, I've been comparing the two. I find one to stand out as a clear winner, keeping my skin shine free for over double the amount of time as its rival.
Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder | Essence All About Matt! Fixing Compact Powder*

"Up to 5 hours natural shine control with natural minerals. Helps minimise the appearance of pores."

"If you prefer pressed powder, this fine, compact powder is for you! It can be applied above foundation to mattify you skin and set your make up for a matt, natural and smooth complexion. Available in one transparent colour for all your skin types - so it's perfect for when you're out and about with your girls! RRP $5.35"

Shopping Rampage | Part One: Sephora

I've made no secret of the fact that I went on a total shopping rampage recently. I used my birthday as an excuse to pick up a bunch of products I've really, really wanted over three online orders; two to Sephora and one to MAC. I spent a lot, don't get me wrong, but please note that I've been saving to place this order for quite some time! I also used some birthday money to buy a few additional products I'd had my eye on. I definitely don't always shop like this! Also, to balance out the fact that my shopping has been a little OTT lately, I'm 5 days into a 50 day shopping ban (read more about it here).

When importing these photos I realise I forgot to photograph one thing (I think only one) so I'll just include that in the second Sephora haul I upload. The final post in this series, my MAC haul, will also include a review of the forwarding service I used to place these orders, Hop Shop Go.

Anyway, I'm sure you really just want to see what I picked up so let's get into it!

Colours of the Rainbow TAG

The Colours of the Rainbow TAG has been circulating the beauty community in the past two months, ever since TalkBeckyTalk created the TAG. A bunch of my favourite YouTubers have done the TAG so I thought I may aswell, even though I technically wasn't tagged. It counts that Jodik79 tagged everyone in hers, doesn't?

Anyway, the tag is based on the rainbow. Obviously. Basically, you choose a product (or, in my case, a couple) that matches each colour of the rainbow and then just talk about it. I just thought it might be a good way to show you some different products in my collection, both new and old.
Taylor Swift Enchanted Wonderstruck | Entourage Cosmetics Lipstick in Attention* | Rimmel London Lasting Finish Matte Lipstick in #107
RED
I've been loving the Taylor Swift Enchanted Wonderstruck perfume at the moment (although don't get me wrong, I love the original too). This has been a fairly recent addition to my perfume collection and I've been reaching for it a fair bit recently. It wouldn't be right to talk about red beauty products without featuring two of my favourite red lipsticks; Entourage Cosmetics Lipstick in Attention and Rimmel London Lasting Finish Matte Lipstick in #107. The lipsticks are very different in tone but both are equally beautiful depending on the look you're going for.
Essence Cherry Blossom Girl blush in Asian Sensation | Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Rendezvous | Revlon Super Lustrous Lipgloss in Coral Reef
ORANGE
l'm quite fond of orange products so it was a little difficult to choose a couple (yes, I could've picked more). Because I often wear quite gold tones on my eyes, I find that Essence's Powder Blush in Asian Sensation is the perfect 'go to' blush for the days where I can't decide what I want to wear on my cheeks. Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Rendezvous is a fantastic lip colour for the days where I want an orange lip but I don't want it as vibrant as LUSH's Liquid Lipstick in Strong. Finally, on days where I feel like my lips are washing me out and I need a bit of colour, I reach for Revlon's Super Lustrous Lipgloss in Coral Reef.
the Balm Balm Jovi Rockstar Palette | NARS Soft Touch Shadow Pencil in Corcovado
YELLOW
If I could only recommend one make up palette to people it would definitely be theBalm's Balm Jovi Rockstar Palette. This palette is absolutely amazing and has some of my favourite eyeshadows in it. I'll definitely be review it soon! When I want to wear a gold eye, my favourite base is NARS' Soft touch Shadow Pencil in Corcovado. It's one of the truest gold bases I've found and I think it's so beautiful.
Australis Bright Nail Colour in Acid Rain* | Maybelline Mega Plush Volum' Express Mascara | Macadamia Natural Oil Luxurious Oil Treatment
GREEN
There's something about the Australis Bright Nail Colour in Acid Rain that makes me really love it. Even though it's definitely a non-Sophie colour, I really love it. I don't wear it often but, when I do, I absolutely love it. I was on the fence about whether I could include the Maybelline Mega Plush in this post because the turquoise colour doesn't quite fit anywhere so I decided to put it here. Why did I desperately want to include it? Because I love this mascara. It's definitely not over hyped. Whilst I'm not actually using the Macadamia Natural Oil Luxurious Oil Treatment anymore, I liked it while I did.
Benefit The POREfessional Pro Balm | Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Nail Color in Pacific Blue | Sally Hansen Miracle Cure Strengthener | NARS Larger Than Life Eyeliner in Abbey Road
BLUE
I love Benefit's The POREfessional. There's nothing else I can really say about this product without raving for hours. Pacific BLue is the most beautiful nail polish. To see this colour, check out this nail of the day post. I think the Sally Hansen Miracle Cure Strengthener has really improved the condition of my nails. I think this is my third of fourth bottle of it. I picked up NARS' Abbey Road eyeliner to wear as a pop of colour. It's a fantastic turquoise eyeliner that I think would suit a lot of eye colours.

Estee Lauder Sumptuous Bold Volume Lifting Mascara
INDIGO
If you read my review of the Estee Lauder Sumptuous Bold Volume Mascara you'll know I absolutely love it. This mascara is such a dream to use and I recommend anyone who can pick it up does! To find out why I love it so much, check out the review!
Clean and Clear Advantage Continuous Control Acne Cleanser | essence Colour & Go Hello Marshmallow*
PURPLE
Whilst there's a cocktail of products that has helped me clear up my skin, I think the Clean and Clear Advantage Continuous Control Acne Cleanser greatly helped. I don't really like purple, to be honest, but this essence Colour & Go Hello Marshmallow is a beautiful pale purple colour. Nail of the day, anyone?
Essence Mono Eyeshadow in #68 Strawberry Ice Cream | Soap & Glory Hand Food | MAC Creme Cup lipstick | MAC Pink Lemonade
PINK
Soap and Glory's Hand Food is my all time favourite hand cream. It moisturises so well and, of course, smells sooo good. I think the Essence Mono Eyeshadow in #68 Strawberry Ice Cream is a great dupe for one of my favourite eyeshadows, Urban Decay's Sin, and I often reach for it when I'm using other shades from my Essence palette. MAC makes some of my favourite lip products, including MAC Creme Cup lipstick and MAC Pink Lemonade. They're both absolutely beautiful.

Bobbi Brown Mini Brights Palette | SJP NYC Eau De Parfum
MULTICOLOURED
The Bobbi Brown Mini Brights palette has been in my make up collection for sooo long yet I rarely pull it out. I don't often wear bright colours on my lids so I forget I own it but I need to start using it for pops of colours, don't you think? The SJP NYS perfume is absolutely beautiful. It was released after the first Sex and the City movie and I love wearing it!

Thanks for reading this post, everyone! I really enjoyed writing this post and sharing some different products with you all. Finding this for every colour was more difficult than I thought it would be but, hey, I did it!

Models Prefer Mattifying Primer Review

When I ran out of my holy grail make up primer, Benefit's POREfessional, I tried to find a cheaper, more accessible alternative. I know that Benefit's POREfessional IS accessible here in Australia but it's sold for $23.00 more than our US friends pay and that just really annoys me. Anyway, I was browsing the aisles of Priceline and, when I saw that this primer was marketed as a mattifying primer, I thought it would be perfect and quickly picked one up!
To see what I think of this primer, keep reading!

Essence Stays No Matter What Waterproof Eye Pencil Review and Swatches

I don't wear eyeliner that much but, when I do, I want it to be a good one. Essence is one of my favourite cosmetic brands so it's no surprise that I absolutely love the Essence Stays No Matter What Waterproof Eyepencils.

"Party-proof for up to 16 hours! This plastic pencil kajal can be sharpened - and it stays put! The creamy, soft texture offers great coverage and won't smudge. It is also waterproof and lasts all day (and all night). Made of PVC-free material with a high coverage, the eye pencil won't melt at temperatures below 40c. Available in three STAYS No Matter What colours; #01 Midnight Black, #02 Stunning Brown and #03 Smokey Grey. RRP $2.50"
- Essence Media Release
Essence Stays No Matter What Waterproof Eyepencils in #01 Midnight Black and #02 Stunning Brown

As I'm sure you can see from the photos above, I have the Essence Stays No Matter What Waterproof Eyepencil in two colours; #01 Midnight Black and #02 Stunning Brown. Both eye liners are incredibly pigmented and glide onto the eye beautifully, regardless of where they're applied.

These eyeliners are some of the smoothest liners I've ever tried, something that I really appreciated as someone who doesn't use eyeliner on a regular basis. The pencil itself is a perfect width and weight, meaning the user has optimum control over the line they're creating. There's nothing worse than using a liner you just can't control! Not only do they apply smoothly, they blend out with absolute ease.

For a more diffused line, I find myself applying the liner to one eye at a time and blending it out with an angled brush. With an eyeliner like this it's important to be quick. When this eyeliner sets it doesn't move, much like the name suggests.

Not only does this eyeliner stay incredibly well on the upper lash line, it stays on my tight line longer than almost every other eyeliner I've tried. Whilst it does transfer to my waterline a little, it's not a lot and, unless you were looking for it, you probably wouldn't. I don't ever apply dark liner to my waterline as I think it completely closes off my eyes but I suspect it would wear just as well as it does on my tightline.

As I said at the beginning of this post, I don't gravitate towards eyeliner that often (using powder in place of liner a majority of the time) but this is the one I've been reaching for whenever I want a more defined line.

Whether you're an eyeliner amateur or connoisseur, I highly recommend you pick up these eyeliners. At a mere $2.50, the only thing I can fault about the whole product is the fact that it needs to be sharpened.

Have you tried these eyeliners? What did you think of them? What are your favourite eyeliners?

*This product was sent me for review, however all opinions are my own. I was not paid for this review.

Always look your best,
Sophie

50 Day Spending Ban with Sweetaholic Beauty

I feel like my spending is a little out of control at the moment. I've placed two Sephora orders recently plus one from MAC (both from the US and to be shipped to me using Hop Shop Go, a parcel forwarding service) and, even though it was all bought with birthday money, it's still a lot!

At the start of this year a blogging friend of mine, Jasmine from Sweetaholic Beauty, participated in a 100 Day Spending Ban. Jasmine uploaded fortnightly updates detailing what she how she was going, what was difficult and how she was managing to resist the overwhelming urge us women feel to shop. I absolutely loved reading Jasmine's updates and thought about eventually participating in a ban myself.

Long story short, Jasmine and I are doing a shopping ban together. She said the most difficult part of her ban was doing it by herself so this time we'll be able to give each other moral support! As this blog  title suggests, we'll be doing it for 50 days (because let's face it, could I really do 100 days?).

We're basically setting ourselves the exact same rules, however there may be a few things one allows whilst the other doesn't.

My rules
NO..
Beauty products (inc. haircare, nail care etc), fashion and/or accessories, books, stationery and, well anything else.

YES..
Skincare (my skin is too sensitive to mess around with using up bits 'n' pieces), body necessities (soap/body wash), giveaway prizes, birthday presents and spending vouchers (it was just my birthday so it'd be cruel to not let me!)

The shopping ban will go for a total of 50 days and end on August 29, 2013

Last time Jasmine participated in a shopping ban she uploaded fortnightly updates and I really enjoyed reading them. I'm not entirely sure whether I'll be doing them yet though. I haven't quite decided!

Also, to make it a little easier for ourselves, we'll be doing a swap at the end. We'll be giving each other five of our favourite beauty products. I love the fact that, even though I can't buy beauty products for myself, I still can for someone else. I'm really excited to give Jasmine some of my favourite products and I may have already bought one.

To read Jasmine's first post, including what she's not allowed to buy, click here

Always look your best,
Sophie
