Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant Review

Exfoliating the skin is a vital part of any skincare routine. It helps rejuvenate the skin, removing dead skin and unclogging pores, and rids the skin of unwanted oils, dirt and nasties. Exfoliating the skin also increases blood flow to the area, promoting healing which is great, especially for those who experience regular breakouts. With all this in mind, however, I've found many facial exfoliants to be too abrasive for my sensitive skin that tends to be very temperamental.

A few months ago I was in David Jones doing what I do best, looking at products I don't need, when I found myself at the Dermalogica counter. There's been a lot of hype surrounding their products of late so, of course, I was more than happy to hear about them all. One product that's always caught my attention is the Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant so, after a lot of schmoozing and sweet talking, I walked away with a handful of samples, including enough of the Daily Microfoliant to last me a week or so.

I instantly fell in love with this product, buying a full size from Skincare Store after only a few days so I could reduce my changes of going without this product. I'm still on that bottle but almost two months ago I bought two more during a huge sale. Let's just say I really like the product.
To see why I'm loving the Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant, keep reading!

"Dermalogica's Daily Microfoliant is a unique, rice-based powder that micro-exfoliates dulling debris and instantly leaves the skin noticeably smoother and brighter. The powder formula activates immediately upon contact with water, releasing Rice Actives, Papain and Salicylic Acid to smooth skin and accelerate skin renewal"

As I said in my Updated Nighttime Skincare Routine, The Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant is a rice based powder exfoliant. My favourite thing about this product is how gentle it is. The finely milled exfoliating powder exfoliates the superficial layers of the skin only, meaning it's totally safe to be used daily, hence the name.

To use this product the package says to pour about a half-teaspoon of Daily Microfoliant into very wet hands and create a creamy paste by rubbing hands together. Whilst I did that initially, I prefer to pour it into a dry hand and turn the tap on very slowly, allowing a few drops to hit the powder until it creates a consistency I'm happy with. I find this just gives me greater control but that's could be just me. Also, as you can see from the image above, sometimes I use more than the recommended half-teaspoon amount. I just can't help myself!

When I'm happy with the paste I've created, I apply it to my face in circular motions. Given that it's an exfoliating product it's important to avoid the eye area! The directions say to leave this on for approximately one minute. Once again, sometimes I leave it for longer, sometimes I leave it for less time. It just depends on what I'm feelin'.
Dermalogica recommends that their Daily Microfoliant be used after cleansing and before toning, however I've always been one to exfoliate before cleansing because I feel like it helps the cleanser penetrate deeper. It just seems to make more sense to me but, hey, maybe I should start using it after my cleanser and see how I like it. What do you think?

Overall, I think the Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant has done an amazing job of aiding in the texture and appearance of my skin. Prior to using this product I had many small bumps on my forehead (you know the ones that aren't actually pimples but they're just .. there?) and, unless I'm unwell or experiencing a massive breakout, they're pretty much non existent now.

I recommend this product to everyone and anyone and, if you get the chance, I think you should give it a try! Have you tried it? What did you think of it? What other Dermalogica products are you loving? I'd love to know!

The Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant retails for $69.00 and I tend to buy mine from Skincare Store as they often have incredible sales!
Always look your best,
Sophie

  3. I use my cleanser before my exfoliator but I know so many people that do it your way and love it! I need to try it that way - I think it makes sense!

  4. Love the microfoliant! I normally exfoliant after cleansing, depending on whether or not the exfoliater is recommended to be left on for a while (e.g. clean and clear in-shower facial).
