Red Earth Secret Potion Illuminating Skin Fluid in #01 Pearl* Review and Swatches

I jumped when I was given the the opportunity to try a selection of Red Earth products, including the Secret Potion Illuminating Skin Fluid in #01 Pearl. When I was lot younger (I'm talking 12-13 here, guys) I had a few Red Earth products that I bought with my sister and, of course, I used them to death. To me brand kind of disappeared after that but now they're back and better than ever with a selection of truly amazing products.

Liquid highlighters are something that I don't reach for on an everyday basis because I feel like they can be a bit more time consuming that a sweep of powder but, when I do, I'm always so happy with the results and left wondering why I don't do it more often. We all know that feeling, don't we?

"Flaunt impossibly luminous skin with this famed multi-purpose illuminator. The light reflecting liquid glides onto skin to enliven your complexion of decollete. Soothing and condiitoning, the formula contains a unique hydrating complex of anti-ageing Vitamins A and E and soothing Balm Mint Extract"
The Red Earth Secret Potion Illuminating Skin Fluid in #01 Pearl is just that, a pearl colour illuminating fluid. It works well on any light skintone (I think #03 Magician would be better for a darker complexion) but I think it looks exceptionally beautiful on cool skintones because of the pinky pearl tones.

I love the glow that the Red Earth Secret Potion Illuminating Skin Fluid gives my skin. I've used it both under and over foundation and, whilst the results are different, I really like the finish of both. To use this product under foundation I place it on the tops of the cheekbone only. I have oily skin so I don't apply it all over my face. When I use it under foundation I find I get a subtle 'lit from within' glow radiating from my cheekbones. For a more dramatic highlight I apply this product over my foundation, patting a small amount along my cheekbones and ensuring that I blend well. I tend to do this when I have good lighting as I like to make sure it's blended really well.

The formula of the Red Earth Secret Potion Illuminating Skin Fluid is quite thin, meaning that it blends onto the skin really easily and with no harsh lines. Phew. I've tried a number of different applications and my favourite is definitely with the tips of my fingers as I find it gives the most control. If that's not your thing, a dense brush like the Real Techniques Expect Face Brush will give a similar result. It's also a really thin formula; there's no chunks of glitter!

I really like Red Earth Secret Potion Illuminating Skin Fluid in #01 Pearl. It's a great highlighting product and gives the best and most natural finish out of all the liquid highlighters I've tried in the past. At $32.00, I think I'll pick up the Magician shade soon! I'm so glad to have rediscovered Red Earth and, not only do I have another review coming soon, but I have a big shopping list for them!!

Have you tried anything from Red Earth? Do you remember old school Red Earth? Let me know!

*This product was sent me for review, however all opinions are my own. I was not paid for this review.

Always look your best,
Sophie

  1. This looks fantastic!

Your right, they just kind of disappeared :( I'm so glad they're back. RE was one of the first cosmetics brands I used when I was getting into make up at school.

I can't wait to see what else you have coming up from them :)
