I was tagged by Sarah from More Than Adored to do The Skincare Tag. My skincare routine isn't too comprehensive, as you may know if you've been following me for a while now, but I thought it'd be a good post to do nonetheless!
Describe your skincare routine in five words..
Crisis management, basic, no experimenting
What's your skin type?
My skin's very sensitive, hence the no experimenting. I have combination skin and can be quite oily through the t-zone. Finally, I'm very prone to breakouts. That's all part of sensitive skin, I guess..
What's your favourite skincare product?
I'm struggling to choose just one, to be honest! I love my Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant because I think it's really helped with the texture and condition of my skin, making make up application so much easier. I think Rosehip Oil has made a huge difference to my skin also. I don't find that I'm anywhere near as oily anymore and I think it really helps soothe breakouts.
Top blemish zapper?
I got this! I've tried so many blemish zappers and spot treatments over the years so I fancy myself to be quite the expert. For white heads (gross, sorry), the Clean & Clear Advantage Fast Clearing Spot Gel is my best friend. I'm also prone to not-so-blind blind pimples and, after testing absolutely everything, I've finally found something that works; Mario Badescu's Buffering Lotion. I notice a dramatic reduction in the size of the blemish overnight and I just love it.
Face wipes, yay or nay?
Nay. Face wipes freak me out. I've been known to use them for make up removal, yes, but I refuse to use them as my only form of skin cleansing. I'm quite fond of the Clean & Clear Deep Action Cleansing Wipes but haven't owned them in a while as they're not a necessity in my routine. I much prefer using my MAC Cleanse Off Oil to remove my make up.
Toner, yay or nay?
Yay! I love toner. I love how refreshing it is and I feel like it helps my oils/serums/treatments absorb into the skin so much easier. Sometimes I feel like the toner also removes the last traces of cleanser that hasn't been washed off and, of course, it's important in balancing out the PH level in the skin.
High end skincare or high end makeup?
Make up! Most of my skincare routine is 'drugstore' at the moment and, even though the products are probably not ideal, they're working for me so I'm not going to question it. I'm also a sucker for high end make up. Who doesn't love the look of a YSL lipstick in their collection?
What's the most unusual skincare product you've tried?
Nothing strikes me as unusual because I tend to keep my skincare routine very mainstream. I struggled using the LUSH Full of Grace serum because it was a solid bar and it felt so 'wrong' rubbing it all over my face. Does that count?
You're in a French pharmacy and can only pick one item - what is it?
I'm going to defy all beauty rules here and not say Bioderma. I'm sorry but I just don't like it. When my Mum was in France I got her to pick me up a tube of the La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo but I've not been using it long enough to have formed an opinion of it so I might get that. Otherwise I'd pick up the Caudelie Beauty Elixir because I've been dying to try that for years.
Tell us your top skincare tip.
I don't think I do anything too out of the ordinary but I think it's important to stick to a skincare routine. Doing my skincare routine in the morning and evening is like a religious experience for me (too far?) and I make sure I never skip it. It's your face, people!
Also, I don't recommend people mix up their skincare items a lot but that's because of personal experience. Some people have skin that respond really well to that (Jasmine from Sweetaholic Beauty, I'm looking at you!) but the thought of changing up my skincare a lot makes me cringe because my face would hate it!
Thank you so much for tagging me to do this, Sarah! It's actually been a lot of fun and I loved reading your responses.

Thanks, Jasmine. Hope you you do it over on your blog. X
DeleteThanks for the tag. I'll get right on it, as soon as I figure out my fav skincare product, and the answer to the french pharmacy question.
ReplyDeleteNo worries! I found the answers easier to answer than I expected which was nice. Can't wait to see what you come up with! X

I love Biorderma for removing my makeup (definitely wouldn't rely on it for cleaning). I also really have to get into using toner after you and Sarah have both said how important it is.
ReplyDeleteI wish I could like Bioderma but I just don't. It makes me break out in the most awful blind pimples. :( I agree though. It freaks me out when people use it in place of cleanser! I really love toner, yeah. Five it a try. Loved your tag, Jenny. X
DeleteHave you tried Formula 10.0.6's Overnight Success Spot Patches? I picked them up when they were on sale at Priceline and I really love them, I think covering my not-so-affectionally-named "volcano pimples" helps them to heal faster. If I run out I just cut out a small piece from a bandaid, that seems to work pretty well too :)
ReplyDeleteI love finding out about other's skincare routines, so I decided to give it a go too! You can see my answers here: http://littleowlbeauty.blogspot.co.uk/2013/08/the-skincare-tag.html x
