In November I placed an order with Kiss and Make Up NY (see haul here) and I couldn't resist adding the Smashbox Photo Finish More Than Primer Blemish Control to my cart. It's a primer that's quite hyped about in the beauty community and, given my ongoing quest for foundation primer and good blemish control products, I figured we could be a match made in heaven.
The Smashbox Photo Finish More Than Primer Blemish Control is a gel formula primer that contains 2% salicylic acid, an anti acne ingredient that aims to provide skincare benefits whilst priming the skin and keeping make up in place all day. The light gel-like formula of this primer sets to a semi matte finish that has smoothed out the skin out in preparation for make up products.
I find that the longevity of my foundation dramatically increases when I'm wearing the Smashbox Photo Finish More Than Primer Blemish Control. Using this in conjunction with my other favourite primer, Benefit's POREfessional, ensures that my make up looks fresh all day long. After some experimenting I decided that applying the Benefit POREfessional over my t-zone first and then going in with the Smashbox Photo Finish More Than Primer Blemish Control all over the face worked the best. For reference, on super hot days I feel as though I need to touch up my powder at about midday but, to be honest, who doesn't?
In terms of providing blemish control, I'm not sure how effective the Smashbox Photo Finish More Than Primer Blemish Control is. What I do know, though, is that it doesn't break my blemish prone skin out so, in my books, that's a win. The primer also contains vitamin E and other good bits to sooth active pimples so I can't really see how you can go wrong (unless you skin doesn't like salicylic acid, of course..).
All in all, I think the Smashbox Photo Finish More Than Primer Blemish Control is a lovely product and a great foundation primer. It retails for $52.95 in Australia and can be bought from Kit Cosmetics stores and Mecca Cosmetica online. Alternatively, you can get it from Kiss and Make Up NY (here) for $42.00US.
Have you tried this before? What's your favourite foundation primer?
