The Foundation Files: Drugstore Foundations

In December I uploaded my first post in my Foundation Files series. I have a love affair with foundations and I find myself trying a lot of them. I created the Foundation Files as an opportunity to talk about the ones I love, as well as the ones I don't like so much. It's taken me a while to write the next post in the series, yes, but here I am with to talk about some of the drugstore foundations in my collection.

Maybelline Dream Pure BB Cream for Oily Skin
I haven't been overly impressed with this BB cream, to be honest. I feel like the coverage is quite minimal and I'm not too sure about the level of oil control it provides. I know a lot of people love this bad boy so I probably need to give it more of a try. What do you think?

Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation
The Rimmel Match Perfection seems to be a Yves Saint Laurent Le Teint Touche Eclat and NARS Sheer Glow hybrid and I think that's why I like it so much. It blends into the skin beautifully for a natural finish with decent coverage. The staying power is great for an everyday foundation, especially given that my skin can be quite oily.

Garnier Miracle Skin Perfecter BB Cream for Combination to Oily Skin
This BB cream is absolutely lovely. I hated its sister product for normal skin, however this combination to oily skin formula is amazing. The coverage of this product is absolutely beautiful. It only comes in two shades, Light and Medium, so it may not be for everyone, purely due to colour matches alone. Again, this is a beautiful product that blends seamlessly and I absolutely love the matte finish.

Revlon Colorstay Makeup for Combination to Oily Skin
This foundation is quite lovely and is one of the most full coverage drugstore foundations in my  collection. It was recently (well, probably a year ago now) reformulated to be a thinner, more blendable product. There are two formulas available, one for combination to oily skin and one for normal to dry skin, so there's probably going to be one that suits you. The Revlon Colorstay has great lasting power and is available in quite a few colours.

Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation*
I was pleasantly surprised with the Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation, as you can read about here. It is a lightweight foundation that's quite easy to work with and it has quite a good level of coverage. It keeps my combination to oily skin quite matte without looking cakey and has a lovely finish.

As I'm sure you can tell, I'm quite fond of all these foundations and, even more than that, I'm fond of their affordable price tags! All five of these foundations are available at Priceline and go on sale quite regularly so I recommend you hit up the sales!

What are your drugstore foundation picks?

*This product was sent to me, however all opinions are my own. I was not paid for this review

    1. You should check it out, Melanie. It's really thin in formula but has lovely coverage so you don't need much. Really? I found the reformulated Colorstay easier to work with and I just love the pump! X

  6. The Revlon Colorstay broke me out :( but I do still use it cause of it's coverage. And I've been wanting to try that version of the maybelline dream fresh, because the previous one didn't do much for me.

    1. Sorry to hear that it breaks you out. Are there any alternatives that won't have just annoying results? Estée Lauder is more expensive, I know, but Double Wear has pretty good coverage. Let me know what you think if you try it. You and I have similar skin. X

    1. Don't be scared! Have you tried applying it with a damp Beauty Blender to dull it down a bit? Alternatively you could mix it with a more sheer foundation to bump up the coverage. X
