Rimmel London Apocalips* Lip Lacquer Review and Swatches

The Rimmel Apocalips* have been receiving a lot of love in the beauty community lately. They were released in the UK a towards the start of the year and, in the last month or so, have hit Australia's shores. If you saw my ASOS cosmetics haul from April (click here to see it), you'll know that I picked up Luna (also known as Phenomenon for us Australians) and Nova, a light peach/coral and a mid toned somewhat dusty pink.
Top to Bottom: Stellar*, Apocalip*s, Nova, Phenomenon (aka Luna) and Stargazer*

"The intense colour of a lipstick with a smooth lacquer shine? Impossible, right? Wrong! New Apocalips* Lip Lacquer combines the best of both worlds with its ground-breaking formula - a luscious liquid packed with pure colour pigments for rich colour, phenomenal shine and supreme comfort that lasts all day. The lip lacquer formula gives your lips colour so strong and bold that your pout is bound to make an impact!"
- Rimmel London Apocalips Lip Lacquer Media Release

When I first tried the Rimmel Apocalips* in Luna (Phenomenon) and Nova, I was pretty disappointed. I think I expected them to be a YSL Glossy Stain and Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipsticks (which I haven't actually tried) which they weren't. After my initial disappointment I didn't reach for them for a while. When three more landed on my blogging desk (Stargazer, Apocalips and Stellar), I decided to give them another shot. That's only fair, right? Long story short, I'm now a big fan of the Rimmel Apocalips Lip Lacquers*!

These liquid lip colours have some of the greatest pigmentation that I've seen in a really long time! As you can see from the swatches below, one swipe of each colour provides and opaque color with a glossy finish. I absolutely love the formula of these lip lacquers. They're incredibly smooth to apply!
Stargazer*, Phenomenon (aka Luna), Nova, Apocalips* and Stellar*
I'm very fond of the application on the Rimmel London Apocalips* Lip Lacquers! Whilst they are a doe foot applicator, they're also a lot more. I find the tip of the applicator allows for excellent precision when applying the product (a must have for a super pigmented product!) and the cavity allows for lots of product to be absorbed and, therefore, applied.

Whilst these lip colours are glossy, I do find that they dry to a more matte finish, leaning somewhere between matte and semi matte. For that reason, I find them a little hard to wear for extended periods of time but that's purely due to me finding all matte lip products uncomfortable because my lips are always super moisturised.

One of the biggest areas of debate surrounding the Rimmel London Apocalips* Lip Lacquers is lasting power. Some people say they last forever, others say they merely last like any other lipgloss. My experience with the products has been somewhere in between; they don't last forever, nor do they disappear instantly. As I mentioned, I like to keep my lips hydrated. This often means that stains don't last as long because there's nothing to absorb them. When applied on bare (unmoisturised *gasp*) lips, I find the colour lasts approximately 2-3 hours before I feel the need to reapply. If I apply a lip balm after application, however, I find myself reapplying within the hour.

Basically, yes, I need to teach myself to be more comfortable with a matte lip!!

All in all, I really like the Rimmel London Apocalips* Lip Lacquers. I'm so glad I gave them a second chance because I definitely didn't give them enough of a shot the first time. These bad boys retail for $15.95 and can be bought from Target, Kmart, Big W, Priceline etc.

What do you think of these? Have you given them a try? I know I have almost all the colours now but is there any you think I'm missing? You all know how I hate to miss out! Also, I'm thinking of recreating a look I wore out on the weekend where I rocked Apocalips. Would you be interested in seeing a Face of the Day? Let me know!

*This product was sent me for review, however all opinions are my own. I was not paid for this review.

What do you think of this look? What are your go to face products?
Always look your best,
Sophie

  2. I have luna at the moment but when I swatched Phenomenon I found the shades to be a bit different...
I'm not sure if they're the same shades - though they are very similar!
I actually feel the same way! I didn't like them upon initial application :)

  6. I really like the colors but, oh god, i cannot stand the scent. Bought one, wore it once, tried three more times and just could not stomach it, almost seemed like it had gone off or something but when i smelled some more at Priceline and they seemed the same. disappointing since the colors and texture are so nice.
