L'Oreal Paris Infallible 2-Step Longwear Lipstick* Review and Swatches

Top to Bottom: #109 Blossoming Berry, #110 Timeless Rose, #111 Permanent Blush and #404 Coral Constant
I'm always on the hunt for long wearing lip products to wear on weekdays. There's nothing worse than having to touch up lip colour every hour and, as a self confessed beauty addict, I can't handle faded lips. With all that in mind, I was so grateful to receive four of the new L'Oreal Paris Infallible 2-Step Longwear Lipsticks* (I know, such a mouthful!) recently and, after using them on and off for a couple of weeks, I'm finally here to give you my thoughts!!
The L'Oreal Paris Infallible 2-Step Longwear Lipsticks* are very new to the Australian market (being available nationwide as of June) so I thought I'd take the opportunity to tell you a little about them before jumping into the review! After the hype and ongoing success of other products in the Infallible range (is anyone else thinking about those absolutely beautiful eyeshadows that I must review?!), L'Oreal Paris launched the Infallible 2-Step Longwear Lipsticks*, 'the new standard in lip colour'. With hyaluronic gel to provide smooth colour that never dries, all day hydration and comfort and fade resistant colour, these lip colours are the answer to a work girl's prayer.

As you can see from the photo above, I have four of the fourteen shades available. To see what I think of the L'Oreal Paris Infallible 2-Step Longwear Lipsticks*, keep reading!

When I first read about these I expected them to be something like the YSL Glossy Stains, a product that's received so much love in the beauty community. Now that I own both products I can say with absolute confidence that they are a completely unique product (well, when compared to other products I've tried..).

L'Oreal Paris Infallible 2-Step Longwear Lipstick in #404 Coral Constant
The L'Oreal Paris Infallible 2-Step Longwear Lipsticks* have, as the name suggests, two steps to the application process; the lip  colour and the lip balm. To ensure longevity, it's important to do the two steps in the right order! First, apply a coat of the lip colour (marked at #1 on the package). This works best on lips that don't have any other product on them, especially lip balm. When that has dried you can use the clear balm to lock in the moisture. Initially I thought I'd be clever, applying a second coat of lip colour before the lip balm. I wouldn't recommend that. Whilst it did enhance the already vibrant colour, it also made the lip colour 'ball up', especially after the lip balm was applied. Oops! That's a mistake I didn't make.. Twice.

When I say the L'Oreal Paris Infallible 2-Step Longwear Lipsticks* are unique, I really mean it. The finish and feel of them is unlike anything I've ever felt before. They apply very smooth, something that I love in any lip product.  As the lip colour dries, the texture changes from a smooth gloss to a tacky finish. A few moments later it changes again. This time it's dried and it feels like a small film of vinyl is on the lips. I know that sounds absolutely awful but that's the only way I can describe it! This feeling doesn't last long. As soon as the lip balm is applied it almost fully disappears and it's almost like wearing nothing at all! As with many long wearing products, these can start to feel dry after a few hours. Cue the lip balm!

The L'Oreal Paris Infallible 2-Step Longwear Lipsticks* have a fairly matte finish. The lip balm on the end of the product allows some sheen to be added back to the lip if it starts looking a little 'flat', however I wouldn't recommend applying a gloss if you want longevity from the product.

For me, I can generally go 5-8 hours without feeling like I need to reapply the colour component of the L'Oreal Paris Infallible 2-Step Longwear Lipstick*. This, obviously, is determined by a number of factors including how much I've eaten/drunk and how often I've reapplied the balm but, as a general rule, I can get a working day out of them. I find they transfer onto glasses etc a tiny bit but that's often just after lip balm has been applied and, regardless of when, it's a lot less significant than most lip colours and how they transfer.
#109 Blossoming Berry, #110 Timeless Rose, #111 Permanent Blush and #404 Coral Constant
The L'Oreal Paris Infallible 2-Step Longwear Lipsticks* are incredibly pigmented, as you can see from the swatches of the four I own. The formula of the product is quite thin, meaning a small amount of product gives great pigmentation! Don't you just love that?

All in all, I'm really happy with this product! I think the formula is fantastic and they do exactly what they claim to, providing long wearing lip colour!

The L'Oreal Paris Infallible 2-Step Longwear Lipsticks* are now available in Coles, Priceline and other department stores, retailing for $29.95.

Have you tried these out yet? What did you think of them? Do you like long wearing lip products? Are you like me, hating lipstick fading?

*This product was sent me for review, however all opinions are my own. I was not paid for this review.

Always look your best,
Sophie

  2. I've used one or two longwear lipsticks before with the balm and the liquid colour and I found they flaked off and looked really nasty as soon as you ate anything and I've been really reluctant to try another one since, did you have that problem with this one?
