With Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life launching today, I thought I'd take the opportunity to upload a post I've wanted to do for ages and share some of my all time favourite shows with you all. There's a lot to talk about so let's just get into it!
For as long as I can remember, I have collected TV shows on DVD. It started when I was in about fourteen. I was in hospital and off school for a few weeks as I'd broken and arm and leg (do not ask) and my Dad decided to buy me the first two seasons of my favourite tv show, Gilmore Girls, on DVD to keep me entertained. Naturally I had to complete my collection as the seasons came out and, all of a sudden, I was collecting all of my favourite shows on DVDs. I turned 24 so this was pre Netflix, remember.
Whilst Netflix is now around, I still collect my favourite shows on DVD. I don't think that'll ever change.
Like I mentioned above, my all time favourite show is Gilmore Girls. I started watching it when I was about ten, fell in love very quickly and, by the time I was fourteen or so, I considered myself an honorary Gilmore Girl. Ever since, I've watched the whole show at least four times a year, burning through two sets of all seven seasons on DVD. No regrets. Needless to say, I am beyond excited that Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life is being released today. If you need me, you'll find me in a Gilmore Girls related trance in my lounge room surrounded by tissues, coffee and tears.
If Gilmore Girls isn't your thing (actually, get out if it's not), there are a number of other shows that I totally adore. Friends and Will and Grace take second spot, with both being absolute classics that are also in high rotation on my screens. If you haven't watched both all the way through, do yourself a favour and get on it.
Gossip Girl, How I Met Your Mother, Modern Family and Parenthood also make the list. They're all quite different but I love them equally and I'd highly recommend them all. If Gilmore Girls is your thing, you've got to check out Parenthood. If knowing Lauren Graham (Lorelai) is in it isn't enough alone, it is another one of those shows that I wish had another five seasons; I could watch it forever.
At the moment I'm catching up on Modern Family and I had totally forgotten how good it is. The cast are incredibly talented, the writing is hilarious and I just can't help but want to be a part of every single one of those families.
Lastly, I love two shows that aren't featured in these pictures, purely because I've lent my season one of both to writes; Please Like Me and New Girl. Please Like Me is an Australian comedy drama that honestly haves me in hysterics. I watched the whole first season in one night and, since then, I've been a hardcore fan. If you do like Please Like Me, season four is currently airing on TV in Australia! GET ON IT.
If you've made it through this episode (also known as a blog post), I am impressed. I could talk/rave about my favourite tv shows for hours, as I'm sure you can tell, but I tried to keep it to a minimum!
My TV on DVD collection is a lot bigger than these nine shows but I thought I'd keep it to the best of the best. If you want to see a part two, let me know!
What are your favourite shows? I'm always looking for more!
