HEART2HEART: Stuck in rut? What's next for Born to Buy?

I've heard someone say that the longer you stay away, the harder it is to come back and that's never been more real to me than it is at the moment.

I haven't blogged in over a month and, let's be real, in the months before my uploads were inconsistent at best. I'm not here to give y'all another lame I've been busy excuse because there's only so many times that they'll work before you just seem like you're taking the piss.

If you've been a long time Born to Buy reader (thank you, by the way), you'll probably remember that last year I was very unwell. From about June - September my uploads were erratic and that's honestly because I was sick. Very sick.

Before that, I prided myself on being a blogger that rain, hail or shine uploaded daily and I really loved the content I was putting out. I would plan my posts, spend all Saturday taking the photos I needed and all of Sunday writing them. Not only that, I'd go to bed at about 12.30am every night/morning and then be up at 5.30am to get ready for work. When I was sick, however, uploading was the last thing from my mind. I wanted to do it, of course, but I wasn't playing with make up and I wasn't feeling up to writing.

During that time, as well as during my recovery, I realised the value of sleep. I realised that spending time with family and/or friends is how I wanted to be spending my weekends. I loved blogging and, my goodness, I still do, however I realised that I had let it define me and take over my life in a way that I didn't like.

Even when I got better (so pretty much for the whole of this year), I was still trying to upload daily. When I couldn't, or when life got in the way, I'd stop uploading mid-week and tell myself I'd try again the following week. This has gone on for the past few months until I just told myself I knew I wouldn't be uploading daily so there was no point at trying at all.

That's crazy and I need to finding a balance.

Today I'm here to say that I am finally back. I won't be uploading daily, as you may have guessed, but I think that uploading every second day is achievable. If it's not, I'll revisit it. I have missed being a part of this community so much and I absolutely cannot wait to share so much with you all.

Until then, tell me, how have you been? I've missed you.

  1. Welcome back lovely and I hope you are feeling much better. It's so difficult to find the balance... during Uni, blogging was easy to juggle, but when I started my full time job 2 years ago I really strugged, I was posting up a post every month and felt like I had no time for family or friends. It took a long time but I finally became more motivated (even though the last thing I want to do when I get home is type on my laptop) and would make small contribution to my posts (even if it's a paragraph every 2 nights) on a regular basis and no longer have a schedule, when the post is done, it's up... rather than committing to 2-3 posts per week.. which i know I won't be able to keep up, so far so good. I hope you'll get to spend more time with your family and friends, like you said sleep is extremely valuable - so I hope you are well rested!

  2. It's great to hear you are back to blogging! I completely understand because I often get snowed under with uni and work. I look forward to seeing your new content :)

  3. Finding balance is easier said than done! Sometimes I feel like I can't do it all! Work full time, studying, blogging! But I seriously enjoy blogging - I love the blogging community, they are so supportive! Keep in there Sophie!

  4. I have been in a blogging rut for a while now! I have a lot of personal issues going on and I feel as if they need my full attention at the moment. I feel inspired by you to let my readers know why I have been absent (without telling them too much of course, some things are best kept to yourself). Sometimes life gets in the way, and that's ok :) your health is always number one priority x

  5. We've talked about this before so you already know what I think, but I'll tell you again anyhow :)
It's your blog and your schedule. Life comes first, blogging is a hobby and it's supposed to be fun. If it's not fun and if it's taking over your life, that's not good. Blog when you want, how you want, on your own terms. If you want to blog every day for a week, great. If the next week you don't post at all, great. It's up to you. Blog on your terms in a way that works for you.

  6. I am so proud of you for picking yourself back up, dusting yourself off and holding your chin up! It would've been such a tough hurdle to get through but you have! Kudos to you <3 and the fact that you've made yourself and getting better your number priority isn't easy but I'm glad you chose yourself over everything else. You're an inspiration!

  7. I think the great thing about blogging is that you don't have to blog everyday, you can blog in whatever schedule or style that suits you and your followers won't mind as long as you let them know what's up! Glad you're back lovely xxx
