I think I'm one of the only people that doesn't love Lucas' Paw Paw Ointment, believe it or not. Being petroleum base, it's nowhere near as good as people say it is and I just think there's better products out there. Earlier this year I found myself in LUSH begging looking for a product to soothe the dry nose that we are all too familiar with when we become unwell.
The sales assistant I was talking to recommended their Ultrabalm, saying that it is their alternative to Lucas' Paw Paw Ointment so I threw caution to the wind and picked it up. I've found myself reaching for Ultrabalm quite a bit lately (I even mentioned it in this year's May beauty favourites post) so keep reading to see what I think!
LUSH's Ultrabalm is a multipurpose petroleum and mineral oil free balm. It is formulated with a combination of candelilla wax and jojoba oil, a vegan alternative to beeswax, and rose wax (to hydrate, of course) and it can be used in place of similar all purpose balms. They say you can use this product for anything and everything. It can be a body cream, a face cream, a lip balm, a moisturiser for chapped skin, a barrier cream or a cream for nappy rash. With all that said and done, I tend to find myself using this on dry skin on my body.
In a nutshell, I think LUSH's Ultrabalm All Purpose Balm is great. It's a super effective moisturising and healing balm that I find myself reaching for so often. There's nothing I hate more than the super dry skin that we get on our noses when we're sick (it makes make up application a real pain in the butt, doesn't it?!) and this is the only product that I've found to really resolve the issue fast. After a few days of multiple applications every day, the dry skin was 100% clear. Though I haven't used this as an all over face product, I was surprised to note that it didn't cause a break out when applied to my nose.
LUSH's Ultrabalm All Purpose Balm is a really neutral product. It contains no irritants and has no scent, meaning that I think it'd be suitable for almost everyone.
As you can see from the photo above, LUSH's Ultrabalm is housed in a compact little tin. It has a thick balm-like texture that melts with the warmth of one's touch. There's 45g of product in a tin and, though it probably doesn't look like much, a little goes a long way so this should last a while. I'll admit, I do find the pot thing to be a little unhygienic but I look past it because I like the product so much.
If you're looking for a more environmental and person friendly version of Vaseline or Lucas' Paw Paw Ointment, look no further than LUSH's Ultrabalm All Purpose Balm. At $9.95 for a 45g tin, this bad boy won't disappoint!
Have you tried LUSH's Ultrabalm? If so, what did you think of it?
