Kat Von D Shade + Light Eye Contour Palette Review and Swatches

The Kat Von D Shade + Light Contour Palette has been making the rounds in the beauty community lately, with absolutely everyone raving about it! I didn't pick it up because I couldn't justify picking up another facial contour palette but when I saw she was releasing a Shade + Light Eye Contour Palette, I jumped at the chance to pick it up!

Kat Von D's Shade + Light Eye Contour Palette is an eyeshadow palette containing twelve matte eyeshadows which are separated into three quads; a cool toned quad, a neutral quad and a warm toned quad. Each quad is also designed to have a base shade, contour shade, defining shade and highlighting shade. The concept behind the palette is that all the shadows, either in their own quads or when mixed up, work well together to create eye looks that will suit any skin tone!

 Laetus |  Samael | Solas | Lucius

Laetus // A creamy nude beige
Samael // A medium dark brown with warm undertones
Solas // A brick red brown
Lucius // A light beige with an pearl/almost frost finish

  Lazarus |  Saleos | Shax | Liberatus

Lazarau // A cool medium toned grey taupe
Saleos // A dark smokey taupe brown
Shax // A dark black
Lucius // A light beige with warm undertones and an pearl/almost frost finish

 Ludwin |  Succubus | Sytry | Latinus

Ludwin // A light/medium peachy/orange
Succubus // A medium/dark copper brown with red undertones
Sytry // A dark chocolate brown
Latinus // A yellow toned beige with an pearl/almost frost finish

The Kat Von D Shade + Light Eye Contour Palette is absolutely lovely. Whilst the shades can be a bit powdery, kicking up a little product in the palette as they used, they're extremely buttery and an absolute pleasure to work with. I find the formula to be quite consistent across all twelve shades, though Laetus and Lucius are probably the most powdery. All twelve of the eyeshadows blend very well, whether that's blending into another Kat Von D shadow or not.

This palette is really sturdy in size and weight. The pans in the eyeshadows are a great size and the mirror inside makes application so much easier. Also, I know this doesn't effect the performance of the product but, I've got to say, the design on the front of the palette is so badass and I love it.

I'd been eyeing this palette off for a while before I picked it up online from Sephora (see haul here), knowing that it'd be a while before Sephora made its way to Perth in Western Australia so I could pick it up here. It retails for $46.00 in the US but I'm not sure how much it'll be when it becomes available here.

This is my first Kat Von D make up product and it certainly won't be my last (Monarch eyeshadow palette, I'm coming for you). Do you have anything from her brand that you'd recommend?

  1. This looks good, I have been loving BeautyLifeMichelle's tutorials using this. I haven't tried any eye shadows from Kat Von D

  2. I need to try more things by KVD. Everything looks so good! Those shadows do ooze "butteriness"!

  3. Where did you buy it from? I live in Adelaide and we don't have Sephora here. The one in the U.S. wont post to me here and the one in Sydney doesn't have a cart for me to purchase online.
