Spring into Summer | Transitioning Your Make Up for the Warmer Weather

If there's one things that anyone who reads this blog should know about me it's that I hate the heat. Hate it. Despise it. Loathe it. Is there anything more passionate? If so, I feel that too! Seriously, anything over 25 degrees Celsius and I'm struggling. With all that said and done, I'm not one to fully switch up my make up routine seasonally but I do think there's a few products that become a beauty lover's best friend as the weather warms up.
For me, summer make up is still full coverage (gotta cover up that redness, y'all), but I also need products that are going to be budge proof and, more than that, sweat proof, products that'll last a full day at work! I have a few warm weather beauty 'must haves' so keep reading to see what I'd recommend and why!

I always wear a primer but I'd really recommend them for the warmer weather; choose the right one and it'll keep your make up on all day and control oil if that's a concern for you. If you have normal/combination skin and are just looking for something that's going to smooth out the face and stop foundation settling into pores throughout the day, I would highly recommend Benefit's The POREfessional Pro Balm. If, however, you're after something that offers oil control, the Essence All About Matt! Oil Control Make Up Base* might be just what you're looking for.

I always opt for a lighter base in the summertime. When I say light I mean light in texture, not coverage. L'Oreal True Match Liquid Foundation and Hourglass Illusion Tinted Moisturiser are two bases that I really enjoy using because they're light enough to feel comfortable in the warm weather. One is substantially cheaper than the other and they do offer different coverage levels but they're both really great. Long wearing concealers like Collection's Lasting Perfection Concealer is also a must - anything too shimmery and/or moisturising might wear off during the day!

One step that is super important for anyone in the warmer months, especially us oily skinned girls, is setting foundation with a powder. I cannot stress it enough. I used to opt for a pressed powder with coverage, however now I'm quite fond of pore minimising loose/blotting powders that aim to control shine throughout the day. I've been playing around with the Soap & Glory One Heck of a Blot Super Translucent Mattifying Powder and I am really impressed with it. It sets face products nicely and extends the wear! I was recently sent the Benefit The POREfessional Agent Zero Shine Shine-Vanishing Pro Powder* which I've heard fantastic things about but I'm yet to give it a try. I'll be sure to report back!

Adding colour back to the face is really important, especially after you've covered everything up with foundations and long wearing concealers! If you're anything like my your face is a completely different colour to your chest in summer because of facial SPF so a bronzer will be your best friend - it's the only way to even everything out! NARS Laguna Powder Bronzer is a fool proof bronzer that works for so many different skin tones. It easily be lightly dusted around the perimeters of the face to warm everything up and make it look a little more streamlined. I don't really have much of an issue with blushes fading I know some people do and that's where a stain like Benefit's Posie Tint* will come in very handy. Posie Tint has a liquid gel consistency which adds a beautiful pink flush to the cheeks and I absolutely love it.

Last but not least is eyes where cream eyeshadows are a lifesaver. Long wearing cream eye products will take a lot of the fuss out of make up application and they can also act as a base for powder eye products. Some of my favourite long wearing eye products are the Maybelline Colour Tattoo 24hr Metal Cream Gel Shadow in Inked in PinkRimmel London ScandalEyes Shadow Paint in Golden Bronze and Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Colour in Rose Gold. These products are long wearing and can all be swept over the lid!

All of these make up products have slowly but surely made their way into my make up routine over the past few weeks and I can see myself using them more and more as the weather continues to (unfortunately) warm up. I think a lot of the tips and products recommendations that I have suggested could benefit a lot of you and I really hope it helps!

What are your 'go to' products for the warmer weather? Are there any saviours?

  1. Really lovely products! Setting foundation is a MUST in Summer! I really want to try the S&G powder! I'm yet to find a primer that I really love, but the sunscreen I use actually mattifies and helps control oil, therefore acting as a primer.
