BATTLE OF THE FACE WIPES // MAC, Murad, Ole Henriksen and Kosmea

Face wipes are quite a controversial concept in the beauty community. You either love them or you hate them but, in saying that, I actually am on the fence. I like the concept of them, especially if they're going to be beneficial to your skin, but the thought of using them as your only cleansing and/or make up removal skincare step really gives me the heebie jeebies.

When all that is said and done, I've given a few a try over the past six months or so and I've found one or two gems, plus one that I'd definitely give a miss, so I thought I'd share them with you.

Being from an Australian skincare line, I really wanted to like the Kosmea Facial Cleansing Wipes* but, unfortunately, I did not. I didn't mind the job they did, though unfortunately it wasn't anything remarkable, but my skin really didn't like them! I find that a few skincare products which contain a lot of natural ingredients leave my skin with red blotches/welts which are quite uncomfortable and last a few hours before fading. Unfortunately the Kosmea Facial Cleansing Wipes* are no exception so I ended up using these to wipe off my arms between swatch-athons. I really love MAC's Cleanse Off Oil so I thought I might like the MAC Wipes also and I'm quite on the fence about these bad boys. There's no disputing that they remove make up, they most certainly do! My one complaint, if you can call it a complaint, is the residue that they leave behind on the face. The MAC Wipes are very effective at removing make up but the slippery/oily  residue that is left behind makes me a little apprehensive about pulling these bad boys out. On the plus side, these don't dry out the face! Because they're so effective, these are fantastic (yet very expensive) wipes to pull out when, once again, I'm having a massive photo and swatching day!

Ole Henriksen's Truth To Go Wipes are incredibly hyped about so, of course, I had to buy and try them. It's all in the name of the blog, right? Right! These wipes are really quite nice. Each wipe is thick, quilted and an absolute delight to use on the face. They're not necessarily as moist as the Kosmea Facial Cleansing Wipes* or MAC Wipes but they're definitely wet enough. These are quite effective at 'removing' make up or refreshing the face but I definitely would not use these as my only cleanse, just a first step! It's also worth nothing that they have an amazing orange candy fragrance that I absolutely love but, if you're sensitive to scents, you may not appreciate it so much!

Last but not least we have the Murad Clarifying Wipes for Blemish Prone Skin. As you can probably tell by their name, these wipes have a very distinct purpose and I really like that! These wipes are very thin and definitely have enough product on them. I feel like they do a really great job of purifying the skin targeting blemishes and break outs. I used to use the Murad Clarifying Wipes for Blemish Prone Skin in place of a toner every single day but now my skin has cleared up I only reach for them on bad skin evenings. I see these as a blemish solution on a pre-moistened towelette rather than a face wipe. I still use these in place of a toner and I would not recommend using them to remove make up, especially eye make up. It'll burn, I promise. SIDE NOTE: These have quite a cooling feeling to them which I can only assume means that they have alcohol and/or menthol in them, two ingredients I try to stay away from but, if I'm honest, I don't mind in this!

All in all, I think there is a face wipe above to suit every person's needs and/or skin concerns. What do you think? I'd recommend them all except for the Kosmea Facial Cleansing Wipes* where my opinion is based on personal experience rather than performance. If you're not prone to a reaction from super natural products I'd recommend those to you as well!

Have you tried any of these four face wipes? What did you think? When I make my way through all of these face wipes, what would you recommend I try next? Also, do face wipes freak anyone else out a little bit?

*This product was sent to me, however all opinions are my own. I was not paid for this review

  1. I tend to wash my face after using these type of wipes anyways so it sounds like the MAC would be best for removing makeup. Thanks for the comparison review!

  2. I have sensitive skin, and I find that Simple wipes work without making it grumpy. I rinse with water afterwards.

  3. I actually don't really use wipes anymore...except when I'm swatching for blog photos, or when I'm going away and throw them in just in case! I always carry my proper cleanser though!

Oh, but I liked the sound of the wipes we got in the last LHI box...I might actually try those!

  4. I'd be curious to know prices of all of these as I've been testing out a lot of face wipes recently as well. Haven't bought any of these yet but the MAC and Ole Henrikeson ones have been one my radar.

Personally, I've been going with drug-store brands lately and not a fan of the Garnier (white package) or Nutrogena (blue package) as I find they're really dry and but I am so in love with the Johnson's face care (pink packet for normal skin) which leave my face feeling refreshed and make-up free! Best of all, they're really affordable if you buy the three packs on sale!
