Too Faced The Return of Sexy Review and Swatches

I've been having an irrational love affair with Too Faced eyeshadow palettes of late. I've been slowly accumulating them and, I'll be honest, I'm in love with them all. One of the most recent additions to my Too Faced collection is The Return of Sexy Palette (as hauled here), and I really, really like it.
The Too Faced The Return of Sexy Palette contains 15 eyeshadows in a range of neutral, purple and grey shades; there's pretty much a shade for everyone to create their perfect sexy and sultry eye look. The information I've read on this palette says that the eyeshadows in the palette have a range of matte, shimmer/sparkle finishes however I would dispute that as I feel the 'matte' shade are more of a pearl/satin finish.

As you can see from the photos above, the eyeshadows are separated in to three distinctive looks; The Ingénue, The Icon and The Bombshell. Of course the colours can be mixed to create looks but it's really nice to have some of the guess work taken out of it for you, especially when you feel like you're having an off day or you're rushing!

The first collection in the palette, The Ingénue, is the most neutral of the three, as you can see from the swatches above. Naive is a shimmery vanilla cream, Ingenue is a bronze with gold shimmer, Innocent is a warm brown with reflects, New In Town is a very shimmery champagne gold and Casting Couch is an intense deep brown, again with shimmer. Whilst all the shades in this collection are shimmery, some are more chunky than others. All of the colours are quite smooth with the exception of New In Town which has a fair bit of fall out and can be quite difficult to work with. I recommend applying this shade straight after a primer so it has something to adhere to. It may also need a few layers to create the desired intensity.

The second collection in the palette, The Icon, is the purple collection in the palette and it's a lot more wearable that I expected. Pink Diamond is satin pale pink shade , Icon is a rose gold/mauve pink with gold shimmer and a fair bit of fall out, Divorcee is a taupe brow shimmer shade, Hopeless Romantic is a vibrant purple with pink shade and Primadonna is a deep purple/eggplant colour with, of course, shimmer. Once again, all the shades in this collection are quite shimmery. I think that Pink Diamond is meant to be a matte shade but, as I said, I feel like it has more of a satin finish to it. Icon is a really beautiful shade but has a very similar finish to New In Town and, once again, I feel like it has the most fall out.

The final collection in the palette, The Bombshell, is the smokey eye collection in this palette and I think it has some really lovely shades. 7 Year Itch is an icy white shimmer shade, Bombshell is a mid toned silver, Hollywood is a darker steel coloured silver with shimmer, Maneater is a metallic rose gold and Beautymark is black with silver shimmer. I feel like Beautymark lets this collection down as it's not quite as pigmented and smooth as the other shades, though it's still nice.

And that's the Too Faced The Return of Sexy Palette! All in all, I think the palette is a nice one but it's definitely not my favourite from them (though I'm not sure anything can top the love I feel for their Chocolate Bar palette). The shade selection is great and, with the exception of a few 'miss' shades, the formula of the eyeshades are so smooth and lovely, as you would expect from Too Faced. As I mentioned previously, the one thing that really stops me from raving about this palette is the lack of matte shades, meaning you'd be inclined to need an additional palette or shadow which can be a little inconvenient, especially if you're strapped for space or wanting to take this bad boy travelling. If that doesn't bother you though, the extremely versatile shade range could make this an absolute winner for you!

The Too Faced The Return of Sexy eyeshadow palette is available from Kit Cosmetics stores for $64.95AU. You can also pick it up from Beauty Bay for $52.00AU. If you're in the US, Sephora sells it for $49.00US.

Have you tried this palette? What's your favourite Too Faced product?

  1. Omg that palette looks amazing, I've been debating about that or the new Cats Eyes one when it's released in a few days. Some great colour selections.

    1. Hi, Kirsty. Thank you for stopping by. I've debated getting the Cats Eye palette but I don't think there's enough colours that I'd use so, for that reason, I'd recommend this palette. It's so versatile. I'm sure you'll be happy with whichever you choose but! X
