Tarte Rainforest After Dark Colored Clay & Cheek Palette Review & Swatches

Palettes are one of my biggest make up weaknesses so I couldn't help but pick up the Tarte Rainforest After Dark Colored Clay Eye & Cheek Palette up from Sephora when I placed an order recently (see haul here). This limited edition palette is only available for a short period of time so I wanted to rush this review through for anyone considering picking this up.

If you're wondering what I thought of the Tarte Rainforest After Dark Colored Clay Eye & Cheek Palette, keep reading!

The Tarte Rainforest After Dark Colored Clay Eye & Cheek Palette is a multi purpose palette containing one cheek highlighter, one matte bronzer, a matte blush and six eyeshadows in a variety of tones. As far as I'm aware, this bad boy is Tarte's autumn/winter offering so, as you can see, the eyeshadow shades in the palette are quite autumnal.

Champagne | Park Avenue Princess | Unleashed

The highlighter in the palette, Champagne, is just that, a beautiful gold toned champagne highligter. It's a nice sold shade that also works beautifully all over the lid or in the inner corner of the eye. Park Avenue Princess, the matte bronzer in the palette, is a warm brown bronzer that gets a lot of hype in the beauty community. This bronzer blends in really nicely and the matte finish means that it looks quite natural on the face. The palette also contains a full sized Amazonian Clay Blush in Unleashed, a nude rose shade. The Amazonian Clay Blushes are infamous in the beauty community and, if I'm honest, I always find them a little underwhelming. Both shades I have are a little difficult to blend and don't look anywhere near as nice as people make out they are.

Bare to Explore | Make a Mauve | Plum Away with Me | Up to No Gold | Tan-gled Up in You | Don't Turn A-Brown

The first eyeshadow in the palette, Bare to Explore, is a matte beige pink. It's quite light on the skin but makes a great all over lid colour for a matte look, as well as a nice crease colour for subtle definition. Make a Mauve is a mauve/plum shimmer shade. It's a really pretty all over lid shade. Finally for the plum/purples, Plum Away with Me is a dark plum/berry shade, again with shimmer. First up for the neutrals is Up to No Gold, a beautiful gold shade that's incredibly vibrant and looks absolutely amazing when applied with a damp brush. Seriously, it looks foiled. Tan-gled Up in You is the type of shade every palette needs, a matte tan shade that works great in the crease. It would also be a nice brow colour. The last shade in the palette is Don't Turn A-Brown, a matte dark brown. This shade is great as a powder liner and, again, would work as a nice brow colour if you really want an all purpose palette.

These are the first eyeshadows I've tried from Tarte and, I must say, they're very nice. As always with eyeshadows, the matte shades in the Tarte Rainforest After Dark Colored Clay Eye & Cheek Palette are a little more difficult to blend out than their shimmery cousins but, honestly, it's nothing serious; they're still lovely to work with. All of the shades are nicely pigmented, with the crease colours light enough that they can be blended out or built up, depending on the kind of look you're trying to create. All of the powders lasted all day without noticeable fading.

According to the Tarte website, the products contain rose clay, vanilla clay and gold clay which all address individual skin concerns. Rose clay is said to sooth the skin around the eye are, vanilla clay is meant to control oil and keep pigment in place all day and gold clay is meant to gently balance and moisturise the skin. You can read all about it here. I'm not sure if the powders meet those claims but, hey, I thought it was something to note.

All in all, I really like the Tarte Rainforest After Dark Colored Clay Eye & Cheek Palette. I think it has a great balance of face and eye products and I think it'd be the perfect companion for someone who's always travelling; all you'd need to pack additionally is complexion and lip products! The palette has a selection of shades that I can see myself using on a regular basis and, with the exception of the blush that I'm indifferent about, I think the formula of the powders is really nice!

The Tarte Rainforest After Dark Colored Clay Eye & Cheek Palette retails for $38.00US. It can be bought from the Sephora website as well as directly from Tarte's. Neither of these stores ship to Australia but you can order it and use a parcel forwarding company like I did. For information on the forwarding company I use and how it works, click here

Have you tried Tarte's products before? What did you think of them? Will you be picking this limited edition palette up?

    1. It's a great selection of colours, isn't it? I feel like the addition of the blush, bronzer and highlighter would make it a traveller's dream, even though I never go anywhere. X

    1. Hi, Sarah. Thanks for your lovely words. I believe stores like Bosa Beauty (Au) are now stocking Tarte. I'm not sure about authenticity but I know people have bought it and are impressed. Something to consider. X

    1. Thanks for checking my review out! The colour selection is perfect for everyday and I love the addition of the plum shades! I haven't tried their foundation but I definitely want to when a Sephora (finally) opens near me. I hate colour marching online. X
