FOTD // Wearable Pink Eyes and Lips (and Cheeks, just because)

On the weekend I decided I wanted to create a look for a Face of the Day post so I asked my Facebook and Twitter followers what kind of look they would like to see. Along with a gothic or Gatsby inspired look (both of which I'd need a little time to prepare for, I believe) a pink eyeshadow look was requested so that's what I decided to roll with today. 

Creating a pink eyeshadow look can be quite difficult and I find that a lot of people tend to steer clear of it, fearing that they'll make themselves look tired or like they actually have the infamous 'pink eye'. I have a few tips, as well as products, that make the look really easy to achieve and it's something that I've been gravitating towards a lot lately, sometimes switching out the base and outer corner colours a little.

I've rekindled my love for Benefit's The POREfessional lately so I applied that all over my face to act as a primer. I wanted a bit more of a natural base so I decided to use my Hourglass Illusion Tinted Moisturiser in Ivory. To add additional coverage on redness and concealer blemishes and dark circles I used my MAC Pro Longwear Concealer in NW20. I set that with the Tarte Amazon Clay Full Coverage Airbrush Foundation. To warm up the face I used the smallest amount of NARS' Laguna Powder Bronzer and to add some colour back into my skin I used a combination of NARS Matte Multiple in Anguila with Illamasqua's Powder Blush in Katie lightly dusted on top. 

I recently dyed my hair and now that it's a bit darker I feel like all my brow products are a little too light (my hair fades quite quickly so it won't be like this for long) so I opted for my Anastasia Dipbrow Pomade in Dark Brown to fill my brows in. I like to keep my brows looking quite natural and I feel like I was able to achieve that with this product. What do you think? 

To start my eyes of I patted some of MAC's Paint Pot in Painterly (not featured in photo above) to neutralise any redness as I didn't want that to be competing with the pinks shades I was putting on later. To add shape to my eye I buffed MAC's Soft Brown Eyeshadow into my crease with a fluffy brush (Sigma E40 Tapered Blending) and diffused it up towards my brow bone. I followed that up with MAC's Wedge Eyeshadow on a smaller and more pointed fluffy brush (Sigma E35 Tapered Blending) directly into the crease of my eye to add more definition and shape. The L'Oreal Paris Infallible Eyeshadow in #004 Forever Pink is a favourite of mine so that's what I used to create this look. I patted this on my mobile lid from inner to outer corner and then went in with my Sigma E35 Tapered Blending to ensure the colour was buffed out nicely at the crease. I patted MAC's Cranberry Eyeshadow onto my outer corner with a fluffy brush to add more pink toned depth to the look. Finally I used MAC's Nylon Eyeshadow (not featured in photo above) to highlight my inner corner. 

When wearing pinks such as these on the lids, it's important to ensure the colour balance is correct so you don't make yourself look ill or tired. One way to do that is to use eyeliner which will separate the eyeshadow from the colour in your actual eye. I used my Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner to draw a very small line on my upper lash line, giving myself a small flick which I've been working so hard to perfect lately. MAC's Chromographic Pencil in NC15/NW20 was used on my lower waterline for the same purpose. Finally for the eyes I threw on some Benefit They're Real Mascara. I recently opened another sample of this that I had lying around and, wow, I forgot how good it was!

I tried out this look with a few different lip options, bright and nudes, and, whilst everything looked quite nice with it, I settled on MAC's Speed Dial. This blue based pink finished the look off perfectly in my opinion!

And there's the look! I really like how it turned out. I chose to use individual shadows instead of my Urban Decay Naked 3 palette but I think you could create a very similar look using it if you have it!
