THE BEAUTY DIET // An Introduction

For almost this whole year I've been reading about Vita from Makeup 4 My Age and Anissa from Beautifully Glossy updating their readers on their beauty diet; a way of them controlling their purchases and working through products in their collection. I've really enjoyed reading about the progress they've been making and, if I'm honest, I've also been admiring their commitment and will power. The other day, after spending wayy too much on the MAC Osbourne collections I decided enough was enough and I decided to join these lovely ladies, as well as Norlin from Baubles, Bubbles & Bags Style File

Previously I've tried spending bans, giving myself budgets and, well, every other trick in the book I could think of to combat my love of shopping for beauty products on line. Whilst I'm blaming my most recent spending ban flop on my two broken legs, I feel like I need something with clear rewards. Vita created a 'two out, one in' approach which I think is really fantastic and I think it'll be a great way to motivate me to finish up those pesky products that have been hanging around for far too long.

For more information about the Beauty Diet, my goals and how I'll be rewarding myself, keep reading!

1. For every two beauty products that use up I'll be about to reward myself with one item. This item will be able to be 'drugstore' or high end though, realistically, I'm sure a majority will be the latter.

Though the other ladies haven't included skincare and hair care, I will be but only to a certain degree. My skin is very sensitive but I want to work through a selection of products that I know do work for my skin, as well as some I've been sent that I really need to form an opinion on so I can review them. I won't, however, use up a product for the sake of finishing it if I know my skin hates it. I also have back ups of a lot of my skin care so I'd like to work through them too. The same goes for hair care, but only shampoo and conditioner. I have a lot of it and I need to work through it. Basically, if it's a product that I'll be repurchasing instantly it won't be counted but it will be if I have a back up in my collection.

2. Products that are being given to friends or culled are included, however I am changing the count to five out, one in for these. It seems a bit crazy to be ruthless culling stuff only to repurchase a heap more.

3. When purchasing products, the ladies have said that they're only purchasing products off a Wishlist that they'll be constantly updating. I'm not sure about that. I have a Wishlist that I'll be constantly uploading and you'll be able to easily see it here

Above is a selection of products that I'm going to be trying really hard to work through, however I will be making a conscious effort to use up as many products as I can. These products will just be my first targets. If there's anything here that you'd like reviewed, please let me know!

I am going to attempt to continue this all the way until the end of the year. It doesn't seem like it will be too difficult but please, be kind to be and keep me motivated wherever possible.

At this point I'm thinking of turning my monthly Emptying the Trash posts into a Beauty Diet + Empties overview. What do you think? I'll also probably do a monthly beauty haul because, well, I won't be acquiring anywhere near as many beauty products as I have been previously!

Also, please know that I'm in the process of finalising and posting two different swaps and I won't be including those goodies in this. I also have two or three sneaky Beauty Bay and MAC US orders that I'm waiting on and those product won't be included either. Want to know what I ordered? Keep an eye out for hauls!

What do you think of the Beauty Diet? Do you think I can do it? Please, be kind to be, people!

  1. I like the idea of this so much. I myself am a little over spending so much money on make-up and having it sit there so I've just been trying to use whatever I can across my collection because there's so much I haven't touched, either in a long time or ever!

    1. Yes! It gets a bit like that, doesn't it? You accumulate soo many products and then they get pushed back and replaced by new products. I'm glad I'm not the only one. Goodluck! X

  2. Good luck Sophie!

I like your rules - especially rewarding yourself with either drugstore or high end products! I sometimes kick myself that I'm effectively banning myself from buying drugstore items because there have been some great releases this year but I decided that if I'm downsizing I might as well reward myself with some luxury stuff ;)

    1. Thank you so much for letting me join you, Vita! I definitely wanted to let people know the I'll be rewarding myself with both drugstore and high end products but, realistically, it'll probably all be high end! I totally know what you mean about rewarding yourself! ;) x

  3. I think it sounds pretty reasonable. Nothing better than the satisfaction of knowing you earned and justified buying a new thing to play with. You can do it!!

  5. I really like this idea! I sometimes struggle with the idea of spending bans because if I break it there is a huge sense of guilt. I think its so much better to have goals that you can be working towards and rewarding yourself for accomplishing! Good luck :)

    1. Oh, girrrrrl, I feel you. A full on spending ban is so difficult to stick to and, as you say, there's so much guilt if/when you cave and buy something. This way you can still buy stuff, you just need to earn it. Thanks for the encouragement and I'm so glad you like it! X
