Stila In the Light Palette Review and Swatches

If I didn't make it crystal clear in my Perfect Palette TAG post, I love eyeshadow palettes. I love experimenting with colour combinations (almost always neutral, of course) and playing around with various eyeshadow formulas from different brands. When I was stalking the BeautyBay site recently I saw that the Stila In The Light Palette was on sale and, given that it had been on the top of my palette wish list for the longest time, I took the plunge and picked it up! To see what else I bought, click here.

The Stila In The Light palette is a neutral eyeshadow palette containing ten eyeshadows with a combination of matte and shimmer finishes. There is also eyeshadows with both cool and warm undertones so I think there's something for everyone! The Stila In The Light palette also comes with a Smudge Stick Waterproof Eyeliner in Damsel, a matte chocolate brown. This eyeliner is so good that it's made me fall back in love with pencil liner. I love the formula so much that I've since picked up a kit containing five more shades. There's a haul coming soon!

Before I get into the formula of the shadows, let's look at the colours in the palette!

Bare | Kitten | Bliss | Sunset | Sandstone

Bare is a matte ivory shade that I use all over my lid before I apply anything else as I find that it helps everything blend out. Kitten, Stila's cult shade, is a shimmery nude champagne pink. I have a full review of the eyeshadow here and I've found that I reach for it in this palette more than I reach for the single I own! Kitten is great for the lid as well as an inner corner highlight. Bliss is a matte neutral toned beige that's really great as a transition shade. Sunset is a really beautiful copper shimmer shade that has a lot more pink tones in it than it appears in the swatch above. Sandstone is a matte cocoa brown that's really nice for deepening up a crease. You could use this shade for your brows if you had really dark hair!

Bubbly | Gilded Gold | Luster | Night Sky | Ebony

Bubbly is a beautiful and pale gold shimmer shade that brightens up the lid so nicely. Gilded Gold is a golden bronze shimmer shade. Again, the swatch above is not representative of the colour at all. My photo of the whole palette is a lot more accurate. Luster is a dark gold/brown shade. It has a matte finish but also has gold shimmer in it. Night Sky is a grey/blue shimmer shade. It's a really beautiful smokey eye shade. Finally, Ebony is a traditional matte black.

Almost every eyeshadow in the Stila In The Light palette is an absolute dream to work with! All of the shimmer shades are extremely smooth, soft and crazy pigmented! They blend out so nicely and have little to no fall out. I feel the same about almost all of the matte shades. These shades are smooth as well, although they're not as smooth which you have to expect; matte shades are notorious for being a little more difficult to work with. Like the shimmer shades, they're incredibly pigmented. The only shade I've had an issue with is Ebony which seems to be a little on the chalky side (as you may be able to see in the swatch), however that's not really an issue as I mainly just use it to line the lashline.

Although it's a fairly natural palette, the inclusion of shades like Luster, Night Sky and Ebony mean that it's a great palette to take a look from day to night! One of my favourite combinations is Kitten on the inner corner, Bubbly on the mobile lid, Bliss through the crease and Luster on the outer corner. It's simple and it works!

The Stila In The Light palettes retail for $62.00 here in Australia and they can be bought from Mecca Cosmetica. Alternatively, you can pick it up from Beauty Bay for $44.00 (although it's currently on sale for $37.80!). If you're living in the US, you can also pick this up from Sephora for $39.00.

Have you tried the Stila In The Light palette or any of the other palettes in the In The.. range? I'd love to know what you think of them!

  2. There's been so much hype and love for this palette! I really want to try some more of Stila's eyeshadows, I have a limited edition holiday palette and wasn't impressed with those, but I feel like the formula is much better in this palette. The shades are gorgeous!
