Maybelline Color Elixir Creamy Lip Lacquer Review and Swatches

I highly anticipated the release of the Maybelline Color Elixir Creamy Lip Lacquers for quite some time. They definitely took their sweet ass time making their way to Australian shores, don't you think? Anyway, I've accumulated a selection of six shades at this point in a combination of bright and neutral shades so it's finally time that I share my thoughts!

The Maybelline Color Elixir Creamy Lip Lacquers are a lip product intended to have the pigmentation of a lipstick, shine of a lip gloss and the moisturising benefits of a lip balm. They have a doe foot applicator which is quite similar to that on the YSL Glossy Stains (I tried to photograph it for you but, no matter what, the photo was just awful) and are housed in really sturdy and quite attractive packaging.

The Maybelline Color Elixir Creamy Lip Lacquers are quite pigmented. As you may be able to see from the photo above and the swatches below, there's a good variety of colours available and, of course, I don't own them all. The pigmentation varies from shade to shade, as with most lip products, but I don't mind that - Just think, you don't want a nude shade to be extremely opaque because, well, hello potential concealer lips.

#15 Mandarin Rapture | #030 Raspberry Rhapsody | #065 Caramel Infused | #085 Hibiscus Haven | #095 Blush Essence | #100 Petal Plush

The Maybelline Color Elixir Creamy Lip Lacquers are extremely comfortable to wear. They apply quite smooth and the only way I could explain the texture is to liken them to a thicker version of the NYX Butter Glosses; smooth, comfortable and pigmented on the lips without being sticky in the slightest. I've found them to wear quite nicely, both over lipsticks and by themselves, lasting anywhere from 1 - 3 hours before needing to be reapplied. That's not too bad for me considering it's essentially a gloss.

I am really impressed with the Maybelline Color Elixir Creamy Lip Lacquers and they haven't disappointed. I think there's a nice selection of shades in Australia, even though we only have 12 shades available whilst the US has 20. I'm a little disappointed that we can't get our hands on #005 Breathtaking Apricot though because it looks absolutely beautiful (Temptalia swatch here). They're a little more than I was hoping they'd be, coming in at $17.95, but I'm not exactly surprised.

Are you loving the Maybelline Color Elixir Creamy Lip Lacquers? What's your favourite shade?

  1. I only got my hands on Caramel Infused and I am really enjoying it! I'm really disappointed though that they're so expensive - I think they're just preying on the hype, knowing that we all desperately want to try them and will pay the higher price.

  3. I'm just not sure. I've been undecided for a long time. They came out in Asia a long time ago when I was right there...so I debated...and decided against it. Then I've been walking into Priceline...debating more...still deciding against it!

I think I'd like if they were more opaque like the Apocalips!
