MAC Fix+ Review

I picked up MAC's Fix + a while back but I didn't try it until recently. The thought of spraying liquid onto a perfected face of make up always freaked me out, especially because I identify as having oily skin. I dabbled into setting sprays in the past, playing around with Urban Decay's All Nighter Setting Spray, but, after seeing Tati from Glam Life Guru on YouTube rave about MAC's Fix + for the millionth time, I decided to pull it out of its box and give it a shot.

Needless to say I absolutely love it and today I'm here to tell you why!

MAC Fix + is a mineral infused water spritz. It contains a blend of green tea, chamomile and cucumber to sooth the skin. It is designed to add radiance and finish make up. The MAC Cosmetics website says it has the scent of Sugi. I'm not really sure what Sugi is, nor have I smelt it, but it definitely has a subtle and soothing scent!

As I said, I am completely smitten with my MAC Fix +. It can be applied at different points throughout a day; under make up, over make up, numerous times throughout make up application and during the day as a refresher. My favourite way to apply this bad boy is when I've finished my make up but just before mascara application. I tend to apply my mascara as the very last step so I'll always use this first. I did spritz my face with MAC Fix + after mascara application a few times but I found that it rubbed off onto my eyelids a little which isn't the best look!

MAC Fix + does an absolutely fantastic job of setting make up. I don't know if it makes my make up lasts longer, no, but it definitely helps everything settle onto the face a whole lot nicer and, more than that, it takes way the powdery finish that can sometimes be left behind after make up application, especially if you use mattifying powders and such like I do!

I find the MAC Fix + mist to be quite fine which means that it doesn't disturb the make up underneath. Even when applied quite heavy handedly, the mist is quite light and refreshing, rather than wet and harsh!

I haven't tried using MAC Fix + during the day, mainly because I never have it around me in the middle of the day, but I'd be really interested in picking up the mini (which, it seems, they only sell in the US - nice ones, MAC) to leave at work. It's a really refreshing product to use in the warmer weather and I think it'd be nice to have one to give my face a midday 'pick me up' when it felt like it was about to melt off.

On a side note, MAC Fix + is also a really nice product to use to dampen a make up brush before applying an eyeshadow wet. I'll often spritz a small amount onto a make up brush before using a pigment to intensify the colour. It's a lot more convenient to use than water and it does a really fantastic job!

The MAC Fix + retails for $27.00 in Australia for 100mL. I apply this quite liberally and, as you can see from the photo, I haven't used too much, espeically considering that I can be quite liberal with the application at times, so I think the 100mL bottle will last you for quite some time!

Have you tried MAC's Fix +? What did you think of it?

  1. Ive had my bottle for about a year now and probably used the same amount as you- it also scares me to spray it over my finished makeup, especially when I have oily skin. Might have to try it out some more!

    1. Oh Monique, you must give it another go! You won't be disappointed, I promise. As I said, I'm not sure how it'll go in Summer but it's lovely at the moment nonetheless. x

    1. I've tried a few Urban Decay ones and I feel that, in terms of setting make up and making it look better, the MAC Fix + is better. It doesn't control oil or make a face of make up stay on better like some Urban Decay ones claim to though, so I guess it depends on what you're after. x

  3. I may have to buy this one once I finish up my current finishing sprays. It sounds so nice! ♡
