FOTD // Looking Happy When You're Feeling Crappy

Guys, about a week ago I was sick. I wasn't dying wish sick, but I was sick enough to complain about it and look and feel absolutely awful. Between being sick and having a broken leg, I'll admit it, I was pretty miserable. When I started to feel better and began to slowly venture out of the house, I realise how pasty and white I looked (and by that I mean more than normal). Needless to say, I needed a bit of make up. I didn't want to create a full on glamorous look so I wanted to keep it easy, adding a bit of colour and light back into the face whilst taking away some of the awful redness that seemed to hang around.

Here's what I created and how I tried to look a little better than I felt.
I was heading out during the day and then I had a dinner to go to in the evening so I wanted my make up to last so, of course, I used a primer. Every primer I own except the Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer is mattifying so, given that I always dry out when I'm sick, I had to opt for it. For my base I used L'Oreal True Match Foundation and I concealed some of my redness and the darkness under my eyes with the MAC Pro Longwear Concealer. I always break out when I'm sick and I couldn't be bothered covering everything but I just wanted to hit the worst culprits. Finally I set it all with the Essence Fix & Matte Translucent Loose Powder.

My face looked so pale and one dimensional so I wanted to add a little life back into it. To do that I pulled out my Red Earth Secret Potion Illuminating Skin Fluid in #01 Pearl* and I just patted a small amount onto my cheek bones. It doesn't do heaps but it definitely adds a bit of a natural glow to my face. I used two new blushes from the MAC Alluring Aquatics collection, the Bronzing Powder in Golden and the Extra Dimensional Bronzer in Aphrodite's Shell, to add colour to my face, rather than add shape. For more of a natural glow I used Milani's Baked Blush in Luminoso. I'm not a huge fan of the blush like the rest of the beauty community but it did a good enough job of brightening and looking natural. Finally, I used another product that I'm not all that fussed about, MAC's Mineralize Skinfinish in Soft & Gentle, over the illuminating fluid to add to the highlighted effect.

For my brows I used a combination of MAC's Fluidline Brow Gelcreme in Dirty Blonde and Anastasia Beverly Hill's Dipbrow Pomade in Dark Brown. I feathered both through my brows, keeping the natural shape but making it all look a little more natural.

I kept my eyes pretty simple but I needed to do something with them because my eyes always look awful when I'm sick. I primed with the LORAC Behind The Scenes Eye Primer and then neturalised all the sick eye redness with my MAC Paint Pot in Painterly. I couldn't be bothered getting eyeshadows out so I used what I already had out. I buffed the MAC Alluring Aquatics Extra Dimensional Bronzer in Aphrodite's Shell into the crease and patted MAC's Mineralize Skinfinish in Soft & Gentle all over the lid and into the inner corner. Easy peasy! To brighten up my eyes even further I ran MAC's Chromographic Pencil in NC15/NW20 along my waterline. Because the Stila Color Outside the Lines set arrived the other day I pulled out the Smudge Stick in Lionfish to draw a really thin line on my lashline for no other reason than I wanted to play. For mascara I pulled out an old favourite, Maybeline Mega Plush

Finally, I kept my lips really simple. I lined and filled the whole lip in with MAC's In Synch Lip Pencil and then went over the top with my MAC Cremesheen Lip Stick in Coral Bliss. It turns out that I'm quite fond of this combination so you may see a lot of it.

aaaaand that's the look. It's nothing exciting and, when I did it on myself, it took all of ten minutes to create. I chose colours than I know brighten my complexion and, even though they're not weather appropriate, they did the job! I didn't look flawless and nothing was perfect but it was 100% on what I looked like pre make up.

  1. Hope you're feeling better now!
I hate feeling sick :( You just don't feel like doing anything.
And I hate putting makeup on even more when I'm sick xD Especially if I'm blowing my nose and keep wiping off the makeup.
I usually just wear foundation and powder because I can't be bothered with anything else. I don't even bother covering my undereyes because I like letting people know that I'm sick. Haha.
