As I said in this haul post, I was trying really hard to not to pick up the two limited edition Makeup Kits from Real Techniques but, in the end, my shopaholic tendencies won and I bought them both. I haven't owned these very long but I've had long enough to play with them and, given that they're limited edition, I wanted to put this haul up as soon as possible so you can still pick these up if you're interested.
Firstly, I thought I'd just go through a few of the similarities between the two palettes. Each palette contains four eyeshadows (three shimmer shades and one matte shade), a dark gel eyeliner, a perfect-finish blue, a glowing highlighter and two shiny lip glosses. Both palettes also come with a free Pointed Liner Brush which isn't advertised - it's a nice surprise.

Above is the Modern Natural Makeupkit. As you can see, there's a nice selection of eyeshadows and they're incredibly pigmented, especially Quicksand and Gold Metal. Coral Sunset, the blush in the palette, is a sheer coral blush that gives the cheeks a nice flush of colour. The two lip glosses, Nectar and Copperhead, are both quite sheer, as you can probably tell from the swatches. Copperhead is a bronze colour with gold shimmer running through it and Nectar is a soft peach, almost clear, gloss.

Above is the Night Owl Makeupkit. They eyeshadows in this palette are a little more diverse in quality and texture than the previous palette. I've found two of the colours to be quite pigmented, Quicksand and Midnight Sapphire, while the other two are a bit disappointing. Royal Orchid is quite sheer and requires a fair bit of layering to be built up to the intensity of the shadow in the palette and Galaxy has some fairly noticeable shimmer which can mean there's a bit of fall out from it. Flush, the blush in the palette, is a quite similar to the other blush, however it's a bit more pink. There's definitely lot more diversity in the two lip glosses in this palette, as I'm sure you can see from the swatches above.
As you may have noticed from the swatches, the lightest eyeshadow (Quicksand) and glowing highlighter in Champagne are the same in both palettes which is okay unless you have both, in which case a bit of variety might've been nice.
The gel eyeliner shades in both palettes are a little on the dry side. When I watched this video Sam and Nic Chapman made for Real Techniques, they mentioned that they intentionally made them on a the drier side to prevent fall out from powder products being caught in the product. They also said they tried to accommodate for people who like soft lines, as well as people who prefer something more intense, as it can be built up. I'm not sure how I feel about this logic but if that's what they want then that's what they want. Finally, I think the lip glosses are pretty crap. Three of the four shades are so sheer that they're non existent and, while Cabernet is actually a really nice shade, I don't think it makes up for the other three.
All in all, I really like these palettes. I think the eyeshadows are really nice, the blushes are both beautiful and, even though it's the same in both palettes, I am so in love with the Champagne glowing highlighter. I definitely prefer Modern Natural because, well, I'm a neutrals girl so it's the palette kit I'd be more inclined to recommend, however both are nice products. Sure, I don't like the lip glosses but I didn't buy the palettes for them so, to be honest, that's not a big deal to me. I do think the packaging is a bit bulky and cheap(ish) but the palettes are quite affordable and I'm sure a better quality packaging would've increased the price.
Both Real Techniques Makeupkits are exclusively available from the Real Techniques website which now ships worldwide. The palettes are limited edition so I don't know how much longer they'll be around for so I'd highly recommend picking them up sooner rather than later.
