At the start of this year I gave my skincare routine a bit of an overhaul, picking up a lot of new products suited to my combination/oily and blemish prone skin. One of the products I picked up (as featured in this haul) is the Aesop Oil Free Facial Hydrating Serum. Previous to this I'd not used many serums as I found it difficult to find one that wasn't too heavy for my skin but I grabbed a sample of this one and, after being really impressed with it, I decided to pick up the full size. The Aesop Oil Free Facial Hydrating Serum is a serum that's marketed at people with combination, oily or troubled skin. Umm, my skin is all of those things. All.
I have not been disappointed with the product and today I'm here to tell you why!
The Aesop Oil Free Facial Hydrating Serum has been a game changer for my skin. It has a way of being hydrating without overly moisturising my skin, meaning it's not as oily, nor is it dehydrated any longer. I find that, as well as hydrating my skin, it somehow manages to control breakouts really effectively. I still break out, yes, but the intensity and duration of the breakouts is far reduced when this product is a part of my routine. About two weeks ago I was in hospital with two broken legs (oops) and I only had my Mum bring skincare essentials to the hospital (The Body Shop Seaweed Deep Cleansing Facial Wash, First Aid Beauty Facial Radiance Pads and whatever moisturiser she saw first). When I returned home, as I'm sure you can imagine, I was breaking out quite badly and one of the products I was most looking forward to using is the Aesop Oil Free Facial Hydrating Serum. Within days my breakout had cleared up a lot, with my Mum even asking what had worked so effectively!
Aesop Oil Free Facial Hydrating Serum's has a lightweight and matte finish that works well under make up so I'll often use this in the morning and evening, especially when my skin is feeling a little 'under the weather'. It has a clean scent that isn't offensive but doesn't linger. When it first dries it can feel a little odd (I can only describe it as tight) but that doesn't stay, lasting 30 seconds maximum.
Lastly, I really like the packaging. It comes in an apothecary style glass bottle, much like most products from Aesop, and there's an pipette to dispense the product. It's one of those nice and sleek looking products that looks lovely on the countertop. We all have them.
The Aesop Oil Free Facial Hydrating Serum is a really lovely product that I would highly recommend, especially to people with a similar skin type to myself. It retails for $69.00 for a 100mL bottle and, whilst that might seem like a lot, I feel like I'm just under half way through the bottle and I've been using it daily since at least February, if not earlier.

lightweight adn matte finish? that sounds so promising. the one facial oil i tried broke me out so i'm pretty hesitant to try another. moisturizers have been working for me so i dont' really feel the need for anything extra.

Gahhh I also have that type of skin, such a hassle sometimes if you ask me! This product sounds great, I've always been scared to try serums but as this is oil free it shouldn't be too bad! I have to ask though when do you use this serum in your routine? And do you still use moisturiser on top of it? Would love to try this out since I'm always looking for products for my pesky skin.
