The Perfect Palette Tag

Palettes are the a beauty lover's best friend. They house a lot of coordinating eyeshadows in one compact location and, most of the time, are the perfect travelling companions. Palettes will take a lot of the guess work out of make up application on days when you really don't want to think about it and, whilst I like all palettes, eyeshadow palettes are my one true love.

The Perfect Palette Tag was going around YouTube last year and, I'll be honest, I really loved watching them. After I added the latest palette to my collect, the Too Faced Chocolate Bar palette, I decided that I had so many palettes loves to share with everyone and this was the best way to do it!

Best Packaging
I am totally in love with Too Faced's Chocolate Bar palette. I have only owned it about 2.5 weeks and, whilst I'm really impressed by the eyeshadows, I really love the packaging. It is shaped like a chocolate bar and it even smells like one. Seriously, what more could a girl want? The shadows are all a really great size also, with highlight shades double the size of others.

Best Colour Payoff
The SauceBox Temptation Palette is, without a doubt, one of the most highly pigmented eyeshadow palettes in my collection. The colours aren't ones I reach for often, as I'm sure you can tell, but they're really lovely. You can see swatches here

Most Versatile
I'm sure it'll come as no surprise that I've featured the Urban Decay Naked palettes as the most versatile palettes in my collection. I couldn't decide between palette 1, 2 or 3 because I think they're all incredibly versatile, it just depends on what colours you like!

Best for Travelling
I'd be most inclined to take my MAC Pro Palette with me when I went travelling. I chose every colour in this palette myself so I know I love them all. I'm able to create a variety of daytime and nighttime looks with it and I think the quality of MAC shadows is so nice.

Biggest Regret
I have no doubt that this is going to be incredibly controversial but, so far, the Lorac PRO palette has been one of my biggest palette regrets. It's a nice palette, sure, but it's not amazing and I certainly don't love it, nor do I completely adore it like I expected to. I need to make a conscious effort to use it more though because I must be 'missing something'. Surely.

Best Colour Names
There are some really cool shade names around now but my favourite is definitely those in theBalm's Balm Jovi Rockstar Palette. All of these eyeshadow names are inspired by 90s (?) rock bands and I just think they're really punny. It's no real surprise though, theBalm is notorious for having good shade names.

Least Used
I don't find myself reaching for the Australis Neutrals and Neons Limited Edition palette often, even though the shades are quite nice. There's a full review (with swatches) of the palette here but, given that I'll only use four of the colours on an everyday basis, it's just not a palette I ever think of.

Most Used
The Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette is, without a doubt, my most used eyeshadow palette, especially of late. I reach for it on an almost daily basis, incorporating Venus and Naked2 into almost every look that I wear. Check out my full review with swatches here.

Most Loved
My most loved eyeshadow palette changes daily. Weekly. Monthly! Does anyone else have that problem? As I said, the Urban Decay Naked Basics would be one of my most loved palettes. Other than that, my loves change quite frequently. At the moment I've really loving the Too Faced Chocolate Bar palette but the original Urban Decay Naked palette is probably 'up there' too!

Desert Island
If I was going to a desert island and I couldn't only take one eyeshadow palette with me I'd probably take the Too Faced Chocolate Bar palette. Why? It has everything. It has a few good matte shades that are great for the crease, two really nice highlight shades and a selection of other shades that are great for the lid and, well, everything else. I'd also like the fact that it smells like chocolate though, if I'm honest, I doubt I'd go anywhere where I can only take one palette.

As you can see, I have a lot of eyeshadow palettes in my collection and there are so many that I absolutely love, plus a few that I actually haven't enjoyed as much as I thought I would. I need to give them more of a shot, obviously.

  1. Lovely picks! The Chocolate Bar seems pretty damn amazing, I've been hearing so many raves lately! Too bad it's now very hard to find! I totally agree about the Balm Jovi palette - I love the names, but also the shadows inside!

  5. The middle column (matte shades) of the Balm Jovi palette are music tempo (speed) markings in Italian :) This palette is my go-to travel palette since it also includes lip and cheek colours!

  7. Some of the bands that inspired the shade names are from the 90s, some are from the 70s and 80s too :) I've never heard of Saucebox! Might have to check them out.

  8. This post really isn't helping my urge to get the Too Faced chocolate bar palette. It looks so nice!!! For some reason I haven't felt like I need the Lorac Pro, it hasn't stood out to me in any way. No idea why it's a cult favourite.
My favourite palette is definitely my UD Naked Palette, but the Ammo palette is a close second because it has colours and neutrals.
