Essie Nail Polish Collection with Review and Swatches

I've never really been quite fond of 'high end' nail polishes, however I've found my Essie Nail Polish collection growing quite a bit since they became so readily available. I've been experimenting with different colours, finishes and effects, and now I'm going to tell you about all seven shades that I've picked up so far!

Before I start telling you what I think of the different formulas I have, I'll give you a run down of all the colours I own so far. Bikini So Teeny is a cornflower blue with a slight shimmer to it. Neo Whimsical is a pastel rose, plum shade that's easily become one of my favourite of the shades in my collection. Turquoise & Caicos is a true aqua green colour with a creme finish. Mint Candy Apple is the iconic pastel mint shade that every nail polish lover and their Mum has. It's worth the hype though, trust me. Ballet Slippers is a sheer pale pink. Penny Talk is a true copper shade with a metallic finish. Finally, A Cut Above is a rose gold/pink glitter polish with glitter pieces in various sizes.

I have a few different formulas and finishes in the collection; creme, sheer, metallic and glitter.  Neo Whimsical, Turquoise & Caicos and Mint Candy Apple are all creme polishes which I think is my favourite formula. The creme polishes apply nicely. They're quite opaque and the shades are very pigmented. Bikini So Teeny is a creme polish with a slight shimmer and I feel like the formula is a bit different to the other creme polishes. It's a lot thinner and requires another coat or two to make it as opaque as the full on creme shades. Ballet Slippers is a sheer, gel type polish that, once again, takes and extra coat or two to get opaque. Unlike other sheer colours though, you can't really see stroke lines so you can easily customise the intensity of the colour. Penny Talk is a metallic formula and while I'm not 100% sold on the colour, the formula is quite nice. It's very pigmented, needing two coats to be fully opaque. I've also found that it's quite a thin formula so it dries really quickly. Finally, I have one glitter polish, A Cut Above. There's quire a lot of glitter in this polish so it's quite nice to apply, though I do apply two coats to ensure there's a good amount of glitter.

All in all, I really like Essie nail polishes and I'm glad I gave them another shot are discrediting them in the past. My favourite formula would probably be the creme formula, just because it's so easy to apply. The colours all last a substantial amount of time but do eventually chip on me, as does all nail polish.

The Essie nail polish range is available at Priceline and most colours retail for $16.95, though I recommend waiting for a sale as they come around quite frequently.

Have you tried Essie's nail polishes? What did you think of them? What's your favourite nail polish brand?

  1. Ahhh I love pastel and light polishes! I really like Mint Candy Apple and Turquoise and Caicos. The Essies I own aren't too impressive as they're really sheer but I really want to pick up some of the shades you mentioned!

  2. I have four of their polishes in a few different formulas. I definitely really enjoy them, and Essie does get a really good rep in the Beauty blogosphere. I really want to try more of their pastels, that's what they seem to be most famous for!
