Products I Regret Buying #1

Let's face it, we all have beauty products that we regret buying. If we say we don't we're just lying to ourselves, surely. I tend to buy what I buy based on recommendations and reviews so, whilst I'm not disappointed often, it does happen! I have quite a few products in my collection that I regret buying and today I'm here to tell you about them. Maybe it'll save you making the same mistakes I did!

My first regret is my own silly mistake; a mistake that cost me $75.00. I picked up the Glam Glow Youthmud Tinglexfoliate Treatment by accident, thinking it was Glam Glow Supermud Clearing Treatment so, of course, I've been pretty disappointed. The mask doesn't do a lot for my skin and it's just not what I wanted or needed.

A few weeks ago I took my 6 empties into MAC and scored myself their amplified creme lipstick in Girl About Town. I chose the colour (described by MAC as 'fabulous fuchsia') on a whim and, if I'm honest, I really don't like it. I'm quite fond of bright lips, especially a bright pink, but something about this colour doesn't sit right with me.

I absolutely loathe the original Maybelline by Eye Studio Colour Tattoos. There was so much hype about them and I expected them to be a dupe for MAC's Paint Pots but they're really, really not. Mine have all dried out almost completely and, to use it, I have to warm them for a good 10-20 seconds by rubbing the product with my finger which, as I'm sure you can imagine, is extremely. In contrast, I absolutely love the Maybelline by Eye Studio Metal Colour Tattoos and I'll never understand why the original ones aren't as smooth.

Someone please tell me, why is the Beauty Blender so hyped about? I picked up two from Lipstick Republic last year when I was grabbing stuff for a giveaway and I haven't really reached for them since. The first time I used it I was so impressed but I've been disappointed every time since. I've used it with so many different foundations and tried so many different techniques but I just don't like how it applies product.

Finally, and possibly most controversially, I regret buying the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Dim Light. I've had it in my make up collection for over a month now and, I have to say, I'm not really impressed by it. It does nothing as an all over face powder for me, other than doing nothing to control oil so making me look shiny. I use it under my eyes and it does okay for that, I guess, but I wish I'd had a bit more of a play (or picked up Ethereal Glow, the colour that's really made a place in my heart).

So these are five products in my make up collection I regret buying. If you've tried any of these products and they're worked for you, that's awesome! Just because they don't work for me, I can't guarantee that they won't for you and, in fact, I really hope they do!

Have you tried any of the products I mentioned above? How did you go with them? What do you regret buying?

I have most products I regret buying - would you like to see a part two?

  1. I agree with tha Beauty Blender. I bought mine more than a year ago and it was fine. Bought another one as the first one broke and it is the worst tool to apply foundation. It soaks up all the product and does not blend anything at all. Maybe I got a dud but I still paid around $20 for a sponge!!

    1. If your second one was a dud, so were both of mine. I'm glad someone else doesn't like it though. People literally gasp when I say I don't like it! X

  2. I'm in the pro-Beauty Blender camp :) I have sensitive/combination skin with some flaky areas and I find when I use this wet it blends the product into my skin better than a brush or my fingers. I do pretty much what this tutorial from the Beauty Department suggests (except I don't squeeze out excess water with a towel, I just use my bare hands) - http://thebeautydepartment.com/2013/07/beauty-basics-foundation-blending/

  3. I'm still loving my Bad to the Bronze color tattoo lol. Haven't tried any of the others. It's a pity paying so much for things that don't work out =(

  4. Wow some controversial products! I still think the beauty blender is too overpriced for a sponge. And dim light looks soo pretty, too bad it didn't work for you :(

  5. I've heard a few people say dim light didn't work for them, but diffused light did.

It always sucks when you've bought a dud product... especially when it was pricey.

  6. I don't use my Dim Light often either ... But I really should!

  7. I actually really like the Maybelline Color Tattoos now.. I used to be with you but I found the perfect brush that works with them, so now I looooove! Haven't tried any of the other stuff, so I can't speak for them! xx

  8. I like the color tattoos but I agree they aren't in the same league as mac paint pots, i only use them as a base. I LOVE Girl About Town but it doesn't always work for me, it depends what my hair colour is at the time. I have a beauty blender but I really can't be bothered with it, brushes are so much easier and consistently give a good finish, whereas the beauty blender sometimes looks good but sometimes I look blotchy, like when you've had makeup on all day and it's starting to separate.
Is this the leadup to a blog sale? :D

  9. I am desperate to try the Hourglass products, but would you believe they are not as easy to get ahold of here as I expected.
I also love the colour tattoos, I use them as a base a lot, and they're perfect for that, but I'm not a great lover of the feel of cream ES anyway.

Still, you're right, there are ALWAYS product we regret buying, at least they have a bloggy use!

  10. I absolutely love glamglow! My skin feels so smooth after using it. Not a big fan of the mess I create whilst washing it off though.

I have a beauty blender and I don't use it. The whole wetting thing and cleaning after is just too much work for me. Maybe one day when I get my own house and have a powder room with a sink....

  11. Phew I'm not the only one who doesn't love the Maybelline Color Tattooos!!! I think I have four or five of them (why???) but have never used them...once every couple of months I try but I can't apply them properly so end up wiping it all off.
