Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in Ethereal Glow Review and Swatch

With many of their products being so highly reviewed, Hourglass has been a buzz word in the beauty community lately. Their Ambient Lighting Powders were, without a doubt, one of the most highly reviewed products of 2013 and every man and their dog seemed to love them. I don't actually get along with the Ambient Lighting Powder I own, however I'm holding out judgement until the weather cools down and my face isn't as much of an oil slick.

When Hourglass released their Ambient Lighting Blushes at the end of 2013, I must admit that I was pretty intrigued. They looked absolutely beautiful but I was a little apprehensive to pick one up. I wasn't getting along with their all over face powders so how would I like their blush? Regardless, I had a play with all six shades during a recent trip to Mecca Cosmetica and I couldn't pass up Ethereal Glow.

To see what I think of the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in Ethereal Glow, keep reading!

Out of all six shades in the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush range, Ethereal Glow was the one that stood out to me the most. They are all beautiful, of course, but I have been gravitating towards pale cool toned pink blushes so much lately and this fits into my collection perfectly. Ethereal Glow is a cool toned pink with veins of Ethereal Light, a cool white powder with an opal finish.

The Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in Ethereal Glow is beautiful. When swatched, as you can see below, it doesn't look like much. A pink, almost white, powder, what's the big deal? I'll admit, I thought the exact same but, for some reason, I knew I had to apply it to my cheeks before I passed judgement. When applied, this blush is absolutely beautiful. It provides the perfect amount of colour to my cheeks and has a luminous glow to it without looking shiny, oily or shimmery. I tried to get a photo of it on the cheeks, however lighting was not working in my favour.

From experience, all six shades in the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush range are very pigmented. Ethereal Light is definitely the least pigmented of the bunch but that's solely due to the shade and as I said, that doesn't affect the way in which it applies. I find Ethereal Light applies beautifully and I honestly don't think it would be possible to 'overdo' it, though it might be with the more vibrant shades.

Much like the Ambient Lighting Powders, the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blushes are housed in sturdy plastic packaging with a gold finish. The packaging is small than the powders, of course, and once again I'm really surprised at Hourglass' choice of packaging. Being such a high end product, I feel like they could've sprung for some luxurious packaging.

All in all, I am really impressed by the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in Ethereal Glow and I definitely think I want to check out a few of the other colours from the range, as well as the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Ethereal Light. The blushes retail for $50.00AU and are available from Mecca Cosmetica stores Australia wide. As a reference, you get 4.2g of product in every Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush as opposed to 3.5g in a MAC Mineralise Blush ($43.00AU), 6g in a MAC Powder Blush ($41.00) or 4.8g in a NARS Powder Blush ($45.00).

Have you given into the hype surrounding the Hourglass Ambient Lighting range? Would you pay $50.00 for a blush and, if so, what colour do you have your eye on?

    1. Hi, Melanie. What a shame! From what I understand, these aren't limited edition so your store should get more in eventually. I definitely recommends watching before buying if possible. X
