Current Top 5 Blushes | March 2014

I used to think blushes were really overrated. I'd use whatever was closest and that'd be that. Over the past six months to a year, however, I've become quite smitten with blushes and their ability to completely transform a make up look and, more than that brighten up the face. I have doubled, if not tripled, my blush collection in the past 12 months or so too, meaning that I always have a few to choose from. In saying that though, there are five blushes that I tend to keep going back to and today I'm here to talk to you about them!

Benefit's Box o' Powder in Rockateur is one of the newest blushes in my collection and probably my least used out of the five, though I do quite like it. It's a mauve/rose gold colour that's neutral enough to go with almost every look. Hourglass's Ambient Lighting Blush in Ethereal Glow is an absolutely beautiful colour that needs to be used to be believed. It's a pale, cool toned pink with veins of a cool toned opalescent powder running through it. For a full review, click here. I asked my Mum to grab me the Yves Saint Laurent Crème Blush in #09 Baby Doll on her trip to Paris last year. It is a cool toned bright pink that, when blended, leaves a matte baby pink flush to the cheeks. It's really lovely, though it's important to note that it does need to be blended quickly. This is one of the only creme blushes that I'll use my fingers for. Next up is my current favourite of the bunch, Illamasqua's Powder Blush in Katie. Katie is a cool toned baby pink blush with a matte finish and I'm totally in love with it. This is the only blush I've been reaching for lately as I find it manages to brighten up a look more than anything else. It's also a beautiful colour for super pale folk like myself. The NYX Rouge Cream Blush in Boho Chic is yet another cool toned pink. It's a pale to medium shade that, much like Illamasqua's Katie, brightens up my face really nicely. It has quite a luminous finish to it as it doesn't try to a matte finish so it's definitely going to be one I pull out in winter when I don't want to eliminate glow.

If there's one thing that I'm sure you've noticed from my descriptions of the colours and the swatches it's that I love myself a cool toned pink. I find that cool toned pink shades brighten up my face so much and look really nice against my super pale skin. I also tend to wear a lot of cool toned eyeshadow shades so it all just compliments each other so nicely.

Have you tried any of these blushes? What did you think? What colours do you tend to gravitate towards and what are your favourite shades?

  3. Loved this post! Rockateur looks gorgeous, do you think it is foolproof? I'm absolutely hopeless at applying blush. Don't want to look like a clown...

  5. Personally, I gravitate towards peachy-pink and corally colours just because I find them more flattering on me! Those cool toned pinks are gorgeous, and I imagine they would be so brightening on the skin!
