Over the past twelve months I've had the opportunity to test a lot of products; some were good, some were average and some were truly remarkable. I've compiled a list of make up, hair care, skin care and miscellaneous beauty favourites of 2013, the stand out products that have really surpassed everything else in my collection, and today I'm here to share the first instalment with y'all, the make up bits!
I tried a new primer this year, the Smashbox Photo Finish More Than Primer Blemish Control, and I really like it. I used it in conjunction with my Benefit The POREfessional Pro Balm (which I apply underneath the Smashbox primer and only on the t-zone) and I think it does a great job at minimising shine and prolonging the wear of my foundation. The NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer and MAC Pro Longwear Concealer both made their way into my concealer collection this year and I really love them both. The NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer does a great job of brightening (I apply it to the inner corner of my eye and work it down), whilst MAC's Pro Longwear Concealer is great for heavy duty concealing, especially if you want it to last. My all time favourite powder for setting foundation is the bareMinerals Matte SPF15 Foundation. It sets everything nicely, keeps it matte all day and adds a bit of extra coverage! Laguna Bronzer by NARS is an oldie but a goodie. I tried other bronzers during the year, yeah, but I always went back to this one, so much so that I hit pan on it and replaced it.
*Believe it or not, these photos were taken at the same time. Get it together, sun!*
Jasmine from Sweetaholic Beauty sent me an Illamasqua Powder Blush in SOPHIE for my 21st birthday this year and I absolutely love it. I have three Illamasqua products in my collection and they've all been sent to me by blogging friends. Goes to show you how amazing the community is, doesn't it? The Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette was a product that I thought was super hyped for no real reason. I bought it regardless, however, and I haven't looked back. It's the easiest and most convenient palette and the shimmer shade, Venus, helped relieve my all-matte-eye anxiety! Also for eyes, the Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes mascara has been a pleasure to use. I don't like switching mascaras as I'm so picky but I picked this up in a Sephora haul in July (link) and I haven't looked back. It's pretty much all dried out after three good months of use but I'm still in denial, determined to get every last bit out! For inner corner highlights, I haven't reached for anything but my MAC Vanilla Pigment since I got it in my hot little hands. This pigment is the most beautiful highlight which brightens up any eye look and pulls everything together. Finally, there's only been one lip product that's completely blown me away this year and it's the NYX Butter Glosses. I've only featured one above, Meringue, but I absolutely love all five that I own.
The products I featured above have stood the test of time for me. They've performed exactly how I expected them to, if not better, and have not been able to be replaced by anything else in my collection.
Did you fall head over heels for any make up this year?
I really want to try the two concealers you mentioned! And I'm resisting the urge to get the Naked basics palette... ooh all the things I want !
ReplyDeleteThe concealers are both so lovely as their respective jobs. Great combo for concealing the whole face. As for the Naked Basics palette, I can't explain how much I love a basic ol' matte palette. I think it was made by the make up gods. X
Deletei really want to try a buttergloss.. i think i'm going to pick it up sometime :)
