Benefit Stay Flawless 15 Hour Primer Review

September 01, 2013 | , , , ,
On Thursday I uploaded a photo to my Instagram and Facebook Page asking people which they'd prefer to see reviewed out of two products, the Clean and Clean Advantage Continuous Control Acne Cleanser and Benefit Stay Flawless 15-Hour Primer. With only one votes for the cleanser, the votes were almost unanimous in favour of the Benefit Stay Flawless 15-Hour Primer so here we are. Remember, follow me on Instagram to have you say on what's featured! I'm also 70 followers away from 1000 which, yep, means I'm 70 away from a giveaway!

"Flawless works overtime! Our instant PRO-long primer acts like a magnet to lock on your foundation for 15
fresh & flawless hours. This invisible primer glides directly onto skin for optimal wear and a natural-looking finish. Go longer. Stay flawless!

You may recognise this primer if you saw part one of my Sephora haul. I bought it because I was starting to see it roll out through American YouTubers and it was getting pretty glowing reviews. I'm pretty sure it's not available in Australia yet but I don't let that stop me!

I've been using the Benefit Stay Flawless 15-Hour Primer on and off for a while now and, unfortunately, I'm not too impressed by it. It's not awful but it's definitely not the best primer I've used on my combination/oily skin, that's for sure!

The packaging of this primer freaks me out. I'm not a huge hygiene freak but I'm not too keen on rubbing product all over my face from a stick. It just freaks me out. I've seen some people say that they remove some of the product to apply it or they wipe it after but not only does that seem like a lot of effort but I'm sure it wastes a lot of the product. Practicality aside, this primer is so pretty!

As I said, it's recommended that the product is used from the tube and drawn all over the face. They then say to apply foundation directly on top without blending. I tried this method but found it to be very uncomfortable. I much prefer to draw it onto the face, blend it out with my fingers and then apply foundation. When applied, you can definitely feel the product on the skin but once it's blended in and dry it's okay.

The packaging and application is weird, yup, but I'd totally be cool with that if it worked for me and my skin type but, unfortunately, it doesn't really. The Benefit Stay Flawless 15-Hour Primer doesn't control shine at all. In fact, I found myself getting shinier with this than any other combination of base products.

There's one thing that the Benefit Stay Flawless 15-Hour Primer has going for it, in my opinion; base products last. Although my t-zone gets super shiny, the make up on the perimeter of my face stays put! I've heard people recommend this is used in conjunction with a primer to maintain t-zone shine but I'd much rather use one product, the Benefit POREfessional, that maintains shine and helps my make up last all day.

All in all, I've been pretty disappointed by the Benefit Stay Flawless 15-Hour Primer. Anyone with combination/oily skin, stay far away. People who identify their skin type as oily, don't even think about it. If you have normal to dry skin though, I think this will be an amazing product for you and do everything a foundation primer is expected to do.

All Australian readers, I Tweeted Benefit earlier this week and was told this primer will be available to us next week. Just in time, don't you think?

Have you tried this? I'd love to know if it works for you!

Always look your best,
Sophie

  1. Great review, I have super oily skin so I can cross this off my want list!

  2. Oh damn! It's a shame it didn't work out but I didn't have high hopes for this product as it's had so many mixed reviews :/

    1. I bought it when everyone was raving about it on YouTube but now the not so nice reviews are coming through the woodwork. Oh well. I'm glad I tried it and I might be able to offload it to someone it'll work better for. Xx

  3. I'm not a huge fan of the Porefessional primer, even though it seems like every other beauty blogger loves it.

I agree with you about the hygiene factor.

    1. I love POREfessional so much that sometimes I have to remind myself that it doesn't work for everyone! The hygiene thing freaks me out. Wiping a stick all over my face daily? No thanks. Xx

  4. I don't know if this happened to you too, but I didn't get the whole "apply foundation immediately after swiping on the primer" method because when I do, my foundation goes on really weird. It's like it slips and slides around and the application is really uneven! I found out it's best to do what you do, wait a bit and blend it out first.

    1. Oh yes! When I did that it was a slippery hot mess. It definitely worked better (but still not well) after I left it to dry for a bit. How does it fair for you? Xx

  5. What a shame! I've read so many glowing reviews on this one, so I'm so surprised you didn't enjoy it! Oh well, I guess everyone is different! Something we must remember with the blogging community :D
Might try this out in store before even considering :P
    xx
