SPRING/SUMMER TREND TUESDAY: Orange Lips

SOURCE
If you don't think the neon pink lip trend is for you, why not consider bright orange? Orange lips are so on trend at the moment. Whilst orange lips can be scary, with people fearing that they'll look like a grandmother, there's an orange lip colour for everyone!

If you like the idea and look of an orange lip but aren't quite sure about rockin' a super bright lip, consider more neutral alternative; corals and peaches are just as effective on the lips and can be a lot more wearable.

For an orange lip to be truly effective, the rest of your make up should be fairly neutral. A defined brow and a contoured eye and cheeks will make you look 'put together' without overpowering your fantastic lip colour.
I recommend swatching oranges until you find one you like, however I have a few recommendations that might make the process of finding an orange lip colour a little easier. People with pale, porcelain style skin are said to look best in blue based orange lip colours, whilst those with olive skintones look best in yellow based orange lip colours.

Regardless of recommendations, you have to be comfortable with the lip colour you choose!
Here's how I achieve my Orange Lip look -
  • To prime I used my Benefit The POREfessional
  • To create a natural yet flawless looking base, I used my Garnier Pure Active BB Cream for Combination/Oily skin (review coming soon), applying it with my Sigma F80 Flat Top Kabuki
  • I patted my Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer in Light into the inner corner of my eye and underneath to hide dark circles
  • To set my base, I buffed MAC's Studio Fix Powder in NC20 into my skin with my Real Techniques Kabuki Brush
  • Using my Sigma F05 Small Contour Brush, I contoured my cheekbones with NARS Laguna Bronzer. I also applied my NARS Orgasm powder blush to the tops of my cheekbones with the same brush
  • To prime my eyelids for eyeshadow, I applied Urban Decay's Eyeshadow Primer Potion in original
  • My whole eye look was created using my new eyeshadow palette, TheBalm's Meet Matt(e).   Matt Smith (a warm light beige) was applied all over the lid. Matt Gallagher (mid toned dark brown) and Matt Patel (purple toned grey brown) were mixed to contour my eyelids. To line, I pushed Matt Ramirez (a warm dark drown with grey undertones) into my upper and lower lashline, blending it slightly with an E.L.F. Essentials Eye Crease Brush
  • Max Factor Lash Extension Effect was applied on top of Maybelline's Falsies Flared mascara to create full yet natural looking lashes
  • To fill in my eyebrows I used my Benefit Brows A Go Go kit. I used the Brow Shaping Wax under the Light Brow Shaping Powder.
  • To create my bright orange lip I used LUSH's liquid lipstick in Strong. A disposable lip brush was used to apply this (left over from a make up gig), providing me with more control than the wand provided. Using concealer on my Real Techniques Accent Brush from the Starter Set, I neatened up the edges of the lipstick
  • To set the look, I spritzed Urban Decay's All Nighter Spray
If LUSH liquid lipstick in Strong is a little too vibrant for you, check out the swatches and products I have recommended below. I'm managed to accumulate a big selection of orange lip products, with each working best for me in different situations (for example, I prefer to wear Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain Rendezvous or Revlon Lip Butter in Tutti Frutti to work).
**applies to both images
Left to Right: LUSH Liquid Lipstick in Strong, Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain Rendezvous, Revlon Lip Butter in Tutti Frutti, Revlon Super Lustrous Lipgloss in Coral Reef, MAC Lipglass in Kumquat and L'Oreal Colour Riche NutriShine in Nudy Coral
What do you think of the orange lip? Have you been on trend with your lip colours so far this season? What are you favourite products to achieve bold lips?

Always look your best,
Sophie
