LUSH Emotional Brilliance

LUSH. When I say (well, technically type) LUSH, what do you think of? Smelly soap, bath stuff and some skincare? Is that it? Well that's about to change with the launch of their new cosmetics line, Emotional Brilliance!

LUSH kept their Emotional Brilliance collection a total secret until July 21, 2012. On May 24, 2012, LUSH uploaded a cryptic YouTube video (click here to watch it), purely designed to tease hardcore fans such as myself. For two months we had no idea what the collection would involve, although there was speculations that it was this, that and everything in between!

Before I continue, no, you're not reading this wrong. I DID say June. This post is very late and I have no excuse other than laziness. Sorry!

On July 21, I, along with my friend Amy, was up bright and early and headed into LUSH for the launch of Emotional Brilliance. My LUSH (Perth Plaza Arcade, if you're wondering) was taking bookings from 8am-10am on the 21st, providing people with an appointment with an opportunity to have one-on-one time with a Lushie (sales assistant) to get to know the product.

After much anticipation, we were finally let in on the secret! Emotional Brilliance is a make up range. YAY. The range includes cream eyeshadows, liquid eyeliners, liquid lip colours, skin tints, a face powder and a mascara.

Before I continue, let me apologise for the quality of these photos. The lighting wasn't the best and I was too scared to have my flash on. No one wants to get the 'why-on-earth-is-she-taking-photos-here?' look, right? Emotional Brilliance is a permanent collection, so I hope to replace these photos with better ones next time I head in.
When we arrived at LUSH the Emotional Brilliance Colour Wheel was being used so we made use of the time and received a demo of the 'staple' products from the collection -
  • Eyes Right Mascara - With fresh wheatgrass to condition your lashes
  • Charisma Skin Tint - Gives dull skin a glow
  • Emotional Brilliance Translucent Face Powder - Sets make up
  • Feeling Younger Skin Tint - Reflects light to brighten the skin
Along with these products, she was also showing us the Colour Supplements (available in light pink, light yellow, dark pink and dark yellow) that have been available for a while. Although I liked the sound of all the products in the range (especially Eyes Right and Emotional Brilliance), I feel that the Feeling Young Skin Tint is a little too illuminating for the combination skin.
By the time we were finished looking at these products, it was time for us to have a go on the Emotional Brilliance Colour Wheel, with Amy going first. The premise behind the wheel is simple; the wheel is spun whilst your eyes are closed. When you open your eyes you're asked to choose the first three colours that you are drawn to, with the order of the colours having a significance within your life.

The theory behind the Emotional Brilliance range is simple - make up colouring should relate to and reinforce your state of mind. Whilst working with a Strategic Behavioural Therapist, they were able to create names for their products.

Once my wheel was spun, I was instantly attracted to three colours; a royal blue, true orange and creamy pink. Not only did these colours surprise me because, apart from the pink, they're totally not me, I found out that Amy chose these colours in the exact same order. Weird, right? Right!

I'm sure you're wondering what this all means. I was! The colours I chose were in Charge, Strong and Believe. According to LUSH, the first choice is meant to symbolise a person's strength or weakness, the second is meant to symbolise their subconscious need and the third is meant to symbolise a talent or something that will help you achieve your subconscious need. When I think about these in relation to the colours I chose, I think it's fairly accurate.

After receiving my colour reading and find out what the colours meant for me, I was then set free to test all the colours, especially the ones I tested.

I ended up testing many colours. MANY. I'm a big fan of the formula of the products - the liquid eyeliners will work great as eyeshadows, which I think is fantastic, along with the cream eyeshadows themselves.

In the end I decided on buying Eyes Right (the mascara), Strong (a bright orange liquid lipstick) and Quietly Motivated (a bronze liquid eyeliner).
I was planning on uploading more photos (swatches etc), but Blogger has decided I have reached my photo uploading quota. For now, unfortunately, this is it. I will be adding other photos, however, so check back if you think these are products you might be interested in.

So far I'm really happy with these products and I'll be heading back to check more out soon. Stay tuned for review also.

Have you checked out the Emotional Brilliance line? What did you think? What do you think of the concept?

Always look your best,
Sophie
