Q & A #2

On Wednesday I uploaded a post, as well as a couple of statuses on my Facebook page, asking viewers to hit me up with any questions (personal, beauty related and/or otherwise) that they wanted me to answer.

I said I'd upload my second Q&A post once I received 5+ questions, and I have, so here goes! To see my first Q&A post, click here.
Do you know any good eyeshadow brands/types that you can get from Priceline?
From Anonymous
I'm a big fan of L'Oreal's Infallible Eyeshadows! Their pigmentation is incredible and they apply so smooth. At present I have four colours (three can be seen in my Unauthorised Shopping Haul) and I love them all. Although the colour range isn't incredible, the eyeshadows come in a range of neutral and bright colours and I'd definitely recommend people check them out!

I'm also enjoying using my Maybelline Eye Studio Color Tattoos. Once again, there's a selection of bright and neutral colours available and they're a dream to work with.

Stay tuned  for a review of both products mentioned!
If you could pick one make up brand to be sold in Australia (that's not already sold in Australia) which would you pick?
From Anonymous
Urban Decay. Definitely Urban Decay. Although I don't have a large selection of their products in my make up collection, I absolutely love everything of that I own. The Urban Decay brand name is one that's well known within the beauty community (especially on YouTube) and beauty gurus far and wide highly regard their products. If you haven't tried any of Urban Decay's products, I'd definitely recommend their eyeshadow primer potion
What is your holy grail mascara, foundation, eyeshadow (may include palette), eyeliner, blush, bronzer, highlighter, brush brand and lip product?

From Abigail

Far out, Abigail, what a question! I am planning on doing a full on HG (holy grail) post soon, so I won't go into too much detail with each product. I will, however, link reviews on products if I've written them.
  • Foundation - NARS Sheer Glow
  • Mascara - Max Factor Lash Extension Effect
  • Eyeshadow - This is probably the hardest for me to answer as I mix up my eyeshadows on a daily basis. I guess I'd have to say the Urban Decay Naked palette. Although it's not necessarily a holy grail product for me, I love the convenience of it and the fact that so many eye looks can be created from one set of eyeshadows.
  • Eyeliner - Eyeliner is another product that I tend to switch up, depending on what look I want to create. I've been using my black MAC eyeshadow in Carbon as an eyeliner (working it into my lash line) for an effect that I really like. My Mirenesse Tight Liner in Black (a felt tip black eyeliner) is ask a big favourite of mine.
  • Blush - I really like the convenience of my only NARS powder blush, Orgasm. The blush colour is very versatile and works well with many looks.
  • Bronzer - NARS Laguna, for sure!
  • Highlighter - I don't have a highlighter that I'd consider to be a holy grail product. I tend to just highlight when I feel that my face is lacking depth. In such occasions, I use my AVEDA Inner Light Shimmer Accent in #01 Moonstone.
  • Brush Brand - I absolutely love my Sigma brushes. There's a number of brushes that I plan on reviewing very soon, so stay tuned! Click here to access Sigma's website through my affiliate link.
  • Lip Product - At the moment I'm loving my MAC lipstick in Creme Cup. I'm also a big fan of lip balm (any, really) with my preference being Maybelline's Baby Lips in Protecting Berry (I think that's what it's called).
So, Abigail, I hope that helps!

What does your skincare routine entail?
From Abigail
Oh, Abigail, you beat me to it again! I am also in the processing of writing my skincare routine post. With that in mind, I won't go into a great detail of detail, but I'll give you an overview of the products I use and for what.
  • Cleanser - LUSH Aqua Marina. I cleanse at least twice a day, more if I feel that I need to remove my make up throughout the day.
  • Exfoliant - LUSH Ocean Salt. I use this product at least once a day whilst cleansing. I apply the product over my Aqua Marina cleanser and wash it all off at once.
  • Toner - LUSH Tea Tree Water. I tone my face after each cleanse.
  • Moisturiser  - I just finished my LUSH Vanishing Cream moisturiser and have moved onto their Gorgeous moisturiser.
  • Spot Treatment - At night, after applying moisturiser I dot Mario Badescu's Drying Lotion on blemishes.
I hope that helps, Abigail. As I said, stay tuned for the post!
What made you interested in make up?
From Anonymous
To be honest, I'm not entirely sure. For as long as I can remember I have been into make up, or the concept of it at least. Being the youngest of three girls (with sisters 6 and 11 years older), I always enjoyed watching my two sisters applying their make up, even if it did drive them crazy! Whenever they cleaned their rooms I'd offer to 'help out', with the condition that I'd score any make up they no longer wanted.

From there, I think my obsession just grew. By the time I was 13-14 years old I was experimenting with any make up I could get my hands on (mainly eyeliner - why do we all go through that eyeliner phase?) and saving all my money for whatever I could afford.

I think that's it, really. As I said, I'm not too sure how it happened (or when it happened, to be honest) but the obsession is deep set and not going anywhere in a hurry.
What do you love most about make up?
From Anonymous
I love the fact that there are no rules. Although there are recommendations and guidelines (don't wear this if you have that etc), you can do whatever you want with your make up. I've always been fairly creative, so now I guess make up application is my, well, outlet.

For me, make up is about customisation. There's probably a more suited word, I know, but I'm sticking with customisation. I love the fact that I can go from a nude lip and barely there eye make up to a bright lip with little to no hassle.

It's all about having fun, expressing yourself and getting your creative on!
What was your first experience with make up?
From themissus
Oh my goodness, I honestly don't know. As I said earlier, the first thing that comes to mind is watching my sisters apply their make up for parties etc, asking endless questions about products and their uses. It's all a blur.

BB cream/tinted moisturiser vs. foundation; What's your opinion, experience and view of both?
From Bethany

Wowza, what a question. Funnily enough, I was asking myself a similar question recently. For the first time in quite a while I used my Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser the other day to decide for myself and, to be honest, I was pretty disappointed. After having used my Skin 79 Super Plus Beblesh Balm Triple and my NARS Sheer Glow foundation for so long, I found that I was quite disappointed by it.

In terms of coverage, I prefer a BB cream or tinted moisturiser. I really like the coverage and finish of both my BB cream, Skin 79 Super Plus Beblesh Balm Triple, and my foundation, NARS Sheer Glow. If you don't have much to cover up, I'd recommend a tinted moisturiser (maybe one from the Laura Mercier range is for you). For me, even though my skin has cleared up quite dramatically, I still prefer a higher coverage product such as foundation.

Although I love the bb cream and foundation I use, it's hard to me to recommend products to someone else without knowing about their skin etc. I hope that helps but, if not, please email me on dontstopbuying@hotmail.com or Facebook me on Born to Buy's Facebook page to tell me more about your skin type etc.

So, ladies and gents, those are the answers to the questions I was sent. What do you think? Do you love them? Do you hate them?

For people who have questions for me, stay tuned! I will soon have a 'Questions' tab on the top of my page so people can ask me questions at any time. For me, this is the best way of making sure everyone's questions are answered without asking all the time.

Always look your best,
Sophie

  1. Thanks for answering my questions! :P

I really need to check Lush out soon and pop my lush cherry! I love mario badescu and was thinking about purchasing the drying lotion after two pimples suddenly erupted on my face (not sure what caused them, as I haven't skin care/make up products... Although I did forget to take my Clarisonic charger with me when I went to the BF's for a few nights and it died...)
