LUSH Cosmetics 9 to 5 Orchid Oil Cleansing Lotion

May 17, 2012 | , , , , , , , , , ,
"Orchids and everlasting flowers soothe and clean the skin thoroughly with a mild antibacterial action, and almond soothes the skin. It's great for taking off stubborn make up and gives a fresh feel after using."
 - Lush Australia
In my most recent LUSH haul I featured 9 to 5, a cleanser that's also marketed as a make up remover. If you've read my 10 Hair & Beauty Rules I Break post (or even my Seven Deadly Beauty Sins TAG), you'll know that I'm terrible when it comes to make up removers; I either don't own one when I feel like I should be removing my make up or I'm too lazy to remove it at night.

I bought 9 to 5 with the intention of using it as a make up remover, not a cleanser, and I've been using this product for three, almost four, weeks now. Unfortunately, I've been quite disappointed by the At $7.95 for 95g, however, I'm glad I gave this product a try.

To use this product, I was told to apply this product to a cotton round and wipe it all over my face. No water is required.

For me, this remover just doesn't remove enough make up. I've found myself using two, sometimes even three, cotton pads and still having product come off when I tone my face. If I come home from a long day (after applying my make up in the morning) almost all my make up does come off, depending on the day. If I come home after a couple of hours out and just want to take it all off, however, 9 to 5 doesn't remove enough.

Don't get me wrong, I don't expect make up removers to remove all my make up (I always follow with my normal routine of cleansing, toning and moisturising) but, in my opinion, there should not be any make up transferring onto a cotton round during toning.

This isn't a terrible product though, don't get me wrong. It makes quite a nice cleanser, although I definitely prefer Aqua Marina and Ocean Salt for that. As far as make up removers go, however, I just feel that there's better out there.

Would I recommend this product? Yes and no. If you're someone who wear light coverage make up, I would recommend this product. It removes light make up quite nicely, and leaves skin refreshed. If you're looking for a product that will remove medium to full coverage make up, I would suggest trying other products. If you're not sure, however, why not head into your local LUSH and grab a sample? It's free and you'll be able to decide for yourself.

What do you think of this product? Have you tried it? Do you have a make up remover you swear by?

  1. great review! have you ever tried 'ultrabland'? it's a stronger makeup remover than 9to5, which I agree was a bit disappointing in that arena. i swear by it!

    1. Hi, Anonymous. No, I haven't. I've heard it's pretty good though. Oh, just another product to add to my constantly growing LUSH collection..

      Thanks for the recommendation.

  2. Sounds interesting...what is the consistency like thick or runny?

    1. Umm, it's somewhere in between. It comes out looking like it's quite thick (takes a lot to squeeze some out) but the formula of the actual product is quite thin.
