I Love This Box March, 2012

My first ever I Love This Box box arrived today. Last month I compared the two boxes I'm subscribed to, Lust Have It and Glossy Box, in an attempt to decide which box I was more impressed with (to see which box won, click here). Throughout the post I stated that, once unsubscribing to one of the boxes I am currently subscribed to, I would move across to I Love This Box.

As of yet, I haven't made the change, however I was lucky enough to be sent March's I Love This Box for review. I know, lucky me! As with all the beauty boxes I review, I Love This Box is a monthly subscription service charging a fee of $14.95 for 4-5 deluxe sized samples. I like a majority of the brands associated with I Love This Box, but these are the ones that really appeal to me.
  • Rimmel London (I know it's a 'drugstore' brand, but I don't know much about their products)
  • Elizabeth Arden
  • Essie
  • Smashbox
  • Lancome
The layout of I Love This Box is very similar to that of Glossy Box, in that a hard box with the products can be found inside the mailing box. Lust Have It, on the other hand, places their products in the mailing box itself.

I really like the layout of this box. Although, after a while I may have too many, I love the idea of the hard cased boxes and I have found all sorts of uses for mine.

The products within this box are all suited to Autumn, providing us with moisturisers, products from an autumn collection and more. The box contains a card that details the products included (including an overview and the recommended retail price), as well as an introduction to the box.

I only received this box yesterday, so I'm unable to review the products. Instead, I'll type out the information provided to me so you're able to get some insight into the items. If possible, I'll also include my initial thoughts.
Essie Nail Polish from Autumn Collection - RRP $18.95
I received a sample size, 5mL, of this nail polish in Lady Like
"'The first thing a person notices when they meet you for the first time is your shoes, your handbag and your nails..' Inspired by handbags - this collection has some beautiful shades in muted nudes, oranges and brown tones. It's your perfect companion for Autumn."
This nail polish colour is perfect for me. The Essie website describes it as 'an elegant soft mauve' which really appeals to me. If you've seen my nail collection post you'll remember that I'm quite, well, boring with my nail polishes and I love neutral colours that are going to go with everything. I think this nail polish is going to be another one of those colours.
Maybelline XXL Pro Curl - RRP $19.95
I received a full sized mascara in Very Black
"It's your 2 step mascara for dramatically curled and extended lashes. Step 1 curls your lashes to a 45° angle and step 2 provides you with a 12 hour hold. Contact lens safe and opthalmologist tested."
A few years ago I used, and really liked, another one of Maybelline's double ended mascaras. I'm not always a fan of eyelash primers, as they often leave eyelashes look a little white, but I'm definitely keen to give this a go. Will it beat my Max Factor Lash Extension Effect mascara? Who knows.
Sunsilk Frizz & Weather Defence Weather Protection and Shine Serum - RRP $8.99 for 40mL
I received a full size of this product
"Our hair is constantly exposed to the effects of the weather, which can ruin your styling efforts in a matter of minutes.  With Sunsilk's Frizz & Weather Defence range, in particular the Weather Protection & Shine Serum, you can rest assured that the UV Filters will provide lasting protection and just as importantly, ensure an all day shine."
I haven't used supermarket branded hair products for about 6 years as my sister hairdresser has always 'hooked me up' but I'll definitely give this product a try. I have really temperamental hair (some day it's lovely waves, other days it's a frizz ball) so this sounds like it could be a bit of a life saver.

Thalgo Soft Hydrating Emulsion - RRP $59.00 for 250mL
I received a 30mL sample of this product
"This fine and light emulsion provides the body with lasting hydration and leaves a delightfully fragrant veil. Rapidly absorbed, you can get dressed right away!"
Moisturisers are always handy and this is the perfect size for travel, the handbag or the office. I'm looking forward to giving this product a try.

Glitter Puff Wand - RRP $12.50
I received a full sized wand
"Filled with glistening body powder for a beautiful sparkle all over - Just grab the wand and gently poof this fabulous little puff to leave the skin shimmery and beautiful. It's your perfect finishing for a night out."
This product seems a little bit random, to be honest, but it's interesting. I'm not sure if I'll use it, but I have two little cousins that I know will have a ball with it. Sharing is caring, right?

So ladies, that's what was in my I Love This Box for March. All in all, I'm really happy with contents. I really like the variation of products and I definitely think it was worth the money. Due to the exceptional Lust Have It! box for March, I'm not sure if I'll be cancelling my subscription and moving across (regardless of what my comparison said) but hopefully I can choose at the end of April.

Have you received any beauty boxes this month? What was your favourite product?

** Please be aware: These products were sent me for review, however all opinions are my own. I was not paid for this review.

Always look your best,
Sophie

  1. I'd be interested in hearing a review of the Thalgo moisturiser. Looks like a good box this month. Not sure about the glitter puff wand thing though...
