After being really disappointed with my previous foundation primer, Laura Mercier's Oil-Free foundation primer, I decided to research a variety of primers before purchasing my next one. After a bit of research (and millions of primer reviews) I decided to try L'Oreal's Magic Perfecting Base. Almost all the reviews I read were amazing and I loved the fact that it wasn't a 'high end' brand, making it affordable and easy to buy.
I've had this product since November, as featured in my Collective Haul, and, until about a month ago, I was using the primer with every foundation application.
The texture of this product is quite hard to explain. It has a mousse-like, smooth consistency that blends seamlessly across your/my face. The consistency and/or texture of it means that a little goes a long way; a plus for a product that is to be used all over the face everyday. The product is also very light, meaning that it doesn't leave skin feeling cakey and heavy.
In the wintertime, this product is perfect for my combination skin. Not only does it make my foundation apply like a dream, but it also helps control my oily t-zone. I apply a little extra product to my t-zone and it keep the oil under control. The primer also smooths out my face like nothing I've ever used before. Once applying, my face becomes smooth and soft, meaning my foundation glides on.
In the summertime, however, I don't find this primer 'cuts it' for me. I find that the primer doesn't control my oil as much as I would like and I'm still on the hunt for the perfect summer primer. I will be using my L'Orea Studio Secretsl Magic Perfecting Base primer again as soon as the weather cools down.
This foundation primer comes in a 15mL tub. Although the tub is small, a tiny amount of product is required so, in my opinion, it's not an issue.
I don't find the scent of this product to be off-putting, either. There is a slight smell to it but you have to actually sniff the tub to be able to smell it.
Would I recommend this product? Definitely. During the cooler months, this product was a great find. If you have normal/dry skin I think it will be more suited to you all year long, but for now I'll just be using in during autumn/winter.
Always look your best,
Sophie
