Fake Urban Decay Naked Palette

I've been researching the Urban Decay Naked palette for over a year now and, for most of that time, I've really wanted it. I spent months looking at reviews and tutorials online, as well as finding swatches of all the different shadows included. Recently I decided that enough was enough and, yes, I was going to buy it for myself.

Before I continue, let me tell you all a little palette. I'm sure I couldn't do I justice so I'll post a little information from the Urban Decay website.
Everybody wants to look good naked! Far from a group of boring beige shadows, Naked Palette's long, lean, seductive case is packed with twelve gorgeous neutrals - Urban Decay
If you've read my Online Shopping post (expect an updated post very soon) you'll know that I'm a compulsive eBay shopper/buyer. I spent ages looking at the palette on eBay and I found one for $48.00US. Given that the palette retails for $50.00US, I decided that  this price was indicative of a legitimate products.
Fake Urban Decay Naked Palette packaging
As soon as my Urban Decay Naked Palette arrived I knew it was a fake. The palette wasn't packaged in the purple velvet box I'd seen so many times. Instead, my palette was packaged in a matte gold box with 'NAKED' written on it.
Even though I haven't actually seen the palette in person, I could tell that the palette's velvet was a different colour too. The Urban Decay palette has a much more intense chocolate brown colour and appears to be a lot smoother (although it's hard to tell from photos, which is all I've seen of a real palette).
As soon as I looked at the shadows I was able to confirm that they weren't real. I spent sooo long looking at swatches so I knew exactly what each colour should look like and that mine looked nothing like them. The cardboard around the hole for the brush was lifting up too, something I wouldn't expect from Urban Decay.

As you can probably tell, I wasn't impressed. I'd spent so long thinking about this palette so it was really disappointing to know someone was trying to sell me a fake. I disputed the purchase through PayPal as soon as it arrived and heard from the seller within 24 hours. They claimed that they weren't aware that product was a 'fake' but agreed to provide me with a full refund.

The seller also offered me an additional $20.00US to product them with positive feedback on eBay (on their customer service, not the product). Given that I was happy with the customer service I received, I was more than happy to do so. Yesterday I posted the palette back to the seller, with them refunding me the postage amount.

As disappointed as I was with the product, I was very impressed with their service. I'm not 100% sure that they weren't aware that it was fake but, hey, they did the right thing by me in the end.

So, ladies, be careful! This experience won't turn me off eBay but I'll be sure to be a lot more careful from now on.

Always look your best,
Sophie

  1. I bought mine from Beauty Bay which is based in the UK. It was 32pounds which is about $48. Plus I got it during a free shipping promotion (that currently have one on now).

  2. Hi Jaci. I recently discovered Beauty Bay and I'm in love. I'm waiting for an order from them at the moment. I've ordered the Naked palette and a new Primer Potion (in the new packaging, yay!). Thanks so much for this though. I only found out about them recently. x

  3. i ordered mine from Debenhams and i received within a day...Be very careful about the best selling products...If you find them exceptionally cheaper than its actual value..then it would be fake..Make sure u get urs from Debenhams or house of eraser if u r in UK...U can get urs for 32 GBP now instead of 36 GTBP...as DEBENHAMS is offering a discount...

    Happy Shopping
