Urban Decay Primer Potion

September 14, 2011 | , , , , ,
Eyeshadow primers (or bases, it's the same thing) act as a base for eye make and is applied to eyelids before eyeshadow and/or eyeliner application. After, again, spending a lot time researching the best primers, I decided I had to have the Urban Decay Primer Potion. It was by far the most recommended primer online. After all, all the beauty gurus on YouTube use it. If it's good enough for Arden Rose, it's good enough for me!
Unfortunately the Urban Decay Primer Potion isn't available for purchase in Australia. I got this product off eBay and I love it. I got the sample size in February as a tester and, sevenish months on, I'm still using the same bottle! I apply a small amount of the Primer Potion to each eyelid almost every morning, so the 3.7mL bottle was definitely worth the $15.97.

Pros
  • Product is easy to apply (with fingertip)
  • The matte finish works well with any eyeshadow
  • Dries fast and doesn't extend the make up application process
  • Enhances eyeshadow colours and helps them become more vibrant
  • Smooths eyelids
  • Works well with any make up look, even just with eyeliner
  • Helps your eyeshadow last all day (and night!)
Cons
  • Packaging is very impractical - Genie shaped bottle makes it impossible to access all product and the wand isn't always the most effective method to get the product out
  • Sometimes eyeshadows 'stick' so well it's difficult to rectify mistakes or blend some colours
NOTE: Although product can sometimes be hard to access, there is a way around it. Click here to find out how I 'depot' my Urban Decay Primer Potion.

I know purchasing things off eBay isn't everyone's cup of tea so I've tried to make a list of other, more accessible options.

The Urban Decay Primer Potion can be a very expensive way to prime your eyelids. For a cheaper alternative, why not check out E.L.F's eyeshadow primer? Get it from Crush Cosmetics or EyesLipsFace Australia.

If buying online isn't your thing, here are some more alternatives. Too Faced Shadow Insurance can be bought from Myer's Kit Cosmetic counters for $34.95. According to everything I've read, it's very comparable to UDPP and possibly better.

If you're a M.A.C. girl, I'd recommend one (or both) of the following. M.A.C Paint Pots (AUD $35.00) primes the eyelid whilst evening out skin tone. M.A.C. Prep + Prime Eye (AUD $33.00) also does has a similar role. As part of their Prep + Prime Range they also have a Vibrancy Eye (AUD $47.00) fluid that primes eyelids whilst reducing puffiness and under eye circles.

Please note: These other primers haven't been tested by me, I've just read about them.

**According to my research, Urban Decay does not test on animals

Always look your best,
Sophie
